where to do a 737 type??

Hey guys

I was wondering if anyone could help me out. I need a 737-300 EFIS type (initial training)...I have no type's whatsoever. So where is the best place to go, or the cheapest.

A 737 is a 737 on your type rating. Why specifically one with EFIS?

Agreed, John, unless one's goal is SWA then it is required. I have heard many people recommend K&S and Higher Power Aviation of Dallas in the past for those SWA-seekers in need of the type.

If you're just buying a type because you have some cash to blow and it seems like fun, don't waste your time or money.
 
After I posted I realized that is probably what you meant. We're on the same page and just didn't know it ...
 
Well here is a question about SWA. If you walked into an interview with their minimum times, would they hire you if you said you would go get the type before the training date?

Yes. Straight from the Southwest website: A candidate may apply without a B-737 Type Rating. If a candidate interviews and successfully completes the entire selection process, he/she has 6 months from that date to obtain a B-737 Type Rating to be eligible for hire.
 
Thank you, Chris. I suppose I could have researched that myself. I also thought it was probably common sense to assume they did.

See, to me this is BS. The whole "no interviews w/o a type" I understood because it was a way to limit the number of applications. However, this set-up (which I am aware was in place before the whole "no interview w/o type") is just flat out exploitation. If you've been hired by SWA (they say you have 6 months after making it through the "selection process") then they should pay for your training. They are just being blatantly cheap and that sucks. Not to mention it probably costs them money in the long run as they then have to go back and "unlearn" any bad habits the pilot learned while getting the type.

When will pilots learn?

I don't see any difference. One lets people that don't have types at least come in and interview, and the other doesn't. To me, they both limit applications. If I KNOW I don't have enough money to get a type in 6 months if I get hired, why would I apply and shoot myself in the foot?
 
The funny thing about the type rating is that SWA still has to train you to their procedures, et al. So even IF you have a type rating, you've still got to do FAA-approved initial training on the 737.

Like the people who previously had Flight Engineer certificates (ratings?) on the 727. They still had to go thru all of the standard training like I did, but they were given one less simulator ride.
 
And if anyone remembers "AeroMech" (AeroTech?) in PHX/SDL, the previous owner is a Delta flight attendant who now owns Sidewinders bar&grill on Frank Lloyd Wright in N. Scottsdale.

Huge beers. We've got to do a JC-PHX function there.
 
Funny you mention SWA pocedures. They just came out with a whole new batch, and I hear pilot grumbling EVERY day about them. They don't go into effect until the end of this month, but everyone is trying to get into the habit now. One guy was complaining over the headset the now he has to remember to start number 2 first no matter what for "passenger comfort and cooling."
 
We started #2 on the 737-200s because we'd run the left pack off of the APU and the right off of the #2 engine.

Err, I think. It's been so long I can't remember! I'm HEAVILY considering going to the turbofluff up in SLC.
 
Amazing. I agree with pilot 602.

The only good thing about the no type interview is you can save 8-10k if they turn you down.

If they hire you they should not require the type. Or at least let you take the type ride from a Fed when you finish training. It would be no cost to the airline.
 
Well, hell, John ... that's two agreements in the past couple weeks ... WTFO?
