When to Start a family

The Big ATL is awesome! My commute takes me right by the airport and I've about wreaked my car twice checking out low flying aircraft. Gotta love 285.

It's funny I've been to Underground Atlanta once and that was when I came from Spring Break back in college. I've not been since.

As far as people from out of town wanting to go there...not gonna happen I'll do the World of Coca-Cola before I do that. People don't come here to see cheesy malls.

Speaking of those that don't have children, you guys would be absolutely amazed how childless couples are sometimes treated like second class citizens in some social circles -- it's highly disturbing.

Oh, believe me, I know. When I was single, my buddy who was married with twin boys CONTINUALLY talked down about me to his other married-with-children friends. Then, I got married and the only thing he had "over" me was that he had kids.

Oddly enough, he is going through a divorce now and she will have primary custody... so, he's essentially losing both.

I'll make sure NEVER to speak of him the way he spoke of me back then.

Boy MY friends did. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif You must be acquainted with much classier folk than I. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

The World of Coca-Cola was #2 on my least favorite destinations. Can't count how many times I've been there with friends from out of town.... But hey! The old "Taste THIS!" never got old when you get up to the tasting room and handed them a "cup" of that Italian crap. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

My "favorite" was when I called my neighbor to tell him that his garage door was wide open and the lights were on in his car:

"Hey Bob! Your interior light is on in your car, you might want to check it out before your battery dies"

"Mmmm, yeah, I'll run out there, I think it was my wife. Yeah, she was a little preoccupied with important stuff like the kids"

Or after our vacation:

"Where have you two been?"

"Well, we went to Europe for a couple of weeks thru Italy, Germa..."

"Yeah, well that's great Doug. We used to do all that stuff, but decided to settle down, you know, start living life."

Grr... I felt like saying "Alright chump, just for that, I'm not voting for that school bond issue!"

Nah, nobody's come to visit yet. A lot of my friend don't even know that Georgia is part of the United States. Damn Yankees can't get over losing the war. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Two words:

1. Jack
2. Ass.

Don't sweat it. Dude's just jealous. But, you know that. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Would it be wrong to look longingly out of the home office window and daydream abut egging your neighbors house? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

nah, not any worse than wanting to stick your gum onto the guy's car...not that i would ever think about something like that... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cwm27.gif

Nope. I look at my boss every day and consider the same thing... basically... only it involves a dark alley and what's hittin' him ain't eggs. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Kidding.... sorta. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Ugh, see those are the people who are probably living by the "script":
1. Get a job
2. Get married
3. Have kids
4. Retire

Repeat steps 2 and 3 as necessary.

Now mind you there really isn't anything wrong with living like that, unless you're only doing because you think you HAVE to.

As I said people like that make me sick. These are the same people who think you shouldn't question the president because he's the president.

Only if you don't do it.

If his kids are teenagers you're golden because it'll surely be blamed on their friends...especially if they have a teenaged son.

Sad to hear that other parents regret their childrens existance. I feell for the child... not the parent.

[/ QUOTE ]

I don't know if it's really a regret!!!

I'm one of those parents that probably would not have had children if I knew then what I know now.

Do I love my children? YES!! Without a doubt!! Am I resentful? NO!!! Would I tell my children something silly like "I WISH YOU WEREN'T HERE"?? No!! Absolutely not. I wouldn't trade them for the world.

That being said, if they grow up and I get into...that place upstairs and I'm given the opportunity to have another life and start over again, I'd stay childless. No doubt in my mind.

And TheWife...as far as kids being more fun than sex? Call me when the little one is 6... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

They may be more rewarding than sex, but they aren't more fun until they learn to work the PS2 and cast a crankbait... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Well I don't even know what a crankbait is but I am guessing a fishing thing?? But you should see my kid on the Xbox. It is sad, yet daddy is proud?? The kid can race cars (I didn't say win, just race) and he can make his "guy" jump up and up down and walk. And he has the required tongue movements down too. (Ya know, how your tongue has to stick out during the hard parts) /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Was that a question?? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif It's sad that he's playing video games, or it's sad that Daddy is proud?

Um, not a question, a confused thought. I guess. LOL. I think it is a little sad that he is already being taught to play those games, and I am confused as to why it is some thing daddys are so proud of. I am proud that he has good eye/hand coordination and follows instructions well enough to do some things like that, but sad that it is being applied to video games. Did that make any more sense or should I call it a day? LOL

I'm not sure what's so sad about it. My little girl is becomming quite the techno-wiz, and video games are a big part of it!! I'm not the only proud one ; her Mother is probably more proud than I am!!

Why is it sad?

I'm trying to understand why you're anti-video game! It's not like it's being applied to gang violence or a sack of tina in a pipe...it's a game!! No different from monopoly, just alot more fun!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I'm not being argumentative, by the way...I'm trying to understand.

I guess I don't see it as much different than sitting in front of the tv all day. I'd rather him be doing active things. Just my opinion though. A little here and there isn't a big deal but I just hope it doesn't lead to hours a day and lots of arguing.

If you let it-you can get obsessed with the games, it can become a financial and emotional burden on your family, and it can impact your attitude. Guess I have to wait and see what happens but I'd rather not encourage him to play them.

Not really...you're not being fed programming...you're actively playing a game. It's no different from Monopoly or Rummy....just like family home evening...;)
It's a game!!

Financial burden on your family? You mean, like buying games? Or playing them? If buying video games becomes a burden, it's not the game that's a burden - it's the person that needs help. Let's say he didn't play games, but he played football. There's alot of money to be spent on football. Does it then become a financial burden on your family?
