When did you solo??

I am in an agrument with my mom right now about whether or not I will be ready to solo on my 16th birthday. I will have about 10 hours by then and my instructor thinks I will be but my naive mom thinks that you 16 hours is to little to solo. She does not have any experience at all in aviation and thinks that she is right over my instructor. My dad is fine with the solo on my 16th birthday but she keeps asking why soloing on my 16th birthday matters. It is a goal to achieve and she says that I will never be happy with what I get even though I am paying for over half of my flight training out of my own pocket. How can I make my mom not be so nervous.:rolleyes::rolleyes:

About 10 hrs for me. Might I suggest, Maybe get your Mom to take a lap around the patch with you and your CFI. SHe isn't worried about how many hours you have, or do not have. She is worried about her "baby" flying one of those dangerous airplanes all by himself.

Good luck!

Haha! That is entirely true. I think I will convince her to take a trip around the patch.

May 5, 2000. I had 7.3 hours. My instructor and I were doing touch and gos when he said "make this one a full stop". Well I did, taxied off the runway. When we got to the ramp he got out and said "give me three full stops, and enjoy yourself". All I have to say that was one of more memorable days of my life. As far as getting mom onboard for soloing at 16, I don't know. I was 18 when I soloed, my mom didn't seem to be nervous about it. Also she didn't find out about it until afterwards.

Age 16 with 100 hours, I aged slowly.

If you have the opportunity to solo on your birthday do everything in your power to make it happen, you'll never regret being able to say "I soloed on my 16th birthday".

I solo'd at the age of 19 at HYA (Barnstable Muni. Airport) with 7.9 hours in a Cessna 152 (N25254) in April <gulp> 1979.

:yeahthat:

I was 16 years old with about 45 hours. Family owned the airplane, so I started flying at an early age. Looking at my logbook, I didn't fly much that year until July, and from the point I started flying consistently, it was less than 10 hours to solo.

Good luck with getting your Mom to understand and not be so nervous.

I flew solo... well with a mere 92.2 hours LOL. That is how things run at delta connection academy nowadays with the new "F.I.T.S." program.

other than that, if you're ready... you're ready.

If not, don't step in the plane.

Good luck buddy.:)

10.8 hours in 1997 an 18 years old in a Cessna 150 at KDPA. Dad hopped out, turned on his hand held transceiver and told the tower there was a 1st solo about to takeoff. The controller was actually a family friend, which was cool. Mom sat next to the taxiway with a video camera and recorded it. I need to dig up her old movies, transfer it to my computer, and post it on my YouTube page.

9.2 hours and 2.9 of those were logged 9 years before the 6.3 that led to my solo.

hours mean nothing though, dont push it, you'll be ready when you're ready.

Roughly at 14 hours, at the ripe age of 31. If your instructor says you are ready, then you are ready. He/she is responsible if you crack up the airplane or get hurt. I would assume they are darn sure before cutting you loose.

14.2 hrs. for me. But that was only 2 weeks into my training...Halloween last year. I drew the ugliest pumpkin ever on my shirt. I'll never forget the feeling.

About to do mine soon, at 19.2 hours. Could have soloed sooner but my instructor wanted to get a X-country out of the way. I also fly out of Class C airspace so it's a little different for me with 737s flying around. Can't wait to get up there on my own.
