Whats your schedule like?

I have had my corporate part 91 job for a few months now. I am not sure if its new plane-itis but the demands on my schedule have begun to exceed my expectations and my wife's comfort level. I have no contract but would like to remedy that. Before I go to the negotiating table I would like as much information as I can about the norms in the industry, even though I know with part 91 there is no such thing.

I'd like to get as much information from all corporate pilots out there.

Part 135, part 91 flight department, part 91 individual owner?

How man days a month do you fly?

Any set days off?

How much notice do you get before a trip?

Gotta run, time to fly

Sounds like you are busy man! Good for you.

My last 135/91 job would let you choose 6 "golden" days off a month. Of course, the company expected the pilot to be "realistic" when requesting their 6 days off.

The base salary was for working 15 days a month. After the 15th day of work you would get a "day" rate for each extra day you worked. This was really nice because the more you worked the more you got paid! If you worked 8 days you still got your base salary for 15 days.

Good Luck.

edit: on days not off they wanted you to be within 1.5 hours of showing up at the airport ready to fly a pop up flight... most of the time they gave you about a 3 hour heads up something "might" be booking

Not so much, I'm on salary.

Im on day 4 of 7 in a row, with less than 24 hours notice. I was kind of hoping for more notice and less flying. Its still better than freight, but not as cushy as i was hoping for.

I work a rotation of 10 days on call (90 minute callout) followed by 5 days off. Scheduled is fixed 45 days in advance. The company reserves the right to require us to work on off days under certain very rare exceptions. Involuntary working an off day, usually means that the company could not get you home in time. Part 91k

One company has you on call beginning Monday at 0400 then continuously on call until you are "home by 0200 Sunday". Sundays are scheduled off, but there are exceptions. This is every week with the exception of a few holidays. Call out is 45 minutes to wheels-up if during the day. 1 hour if at night.

91 Individual owner with small percentage partner.
400+ hours annually
average 14 working days/mo 8 overnights.
No set days off unless you request them.
Average notice for trips 14 days.

I work with mikecweb, so it's the same for me. I'll elaborate on the "new-plane-itis". I've been here for 4 1/2 years, during which we've gotten three new jets (the first one being the reason they hired pilots). The first one, it was go go go with personal play trips for the first 6 months. Then they discovered the endless possibilities with using it for the company, and we ramped up business trips for the next 6 months.
The second one, a year and a half later. Same thing; novelty for the first 3 months as each owner tried it out with their own friends and/or family. The novelty wore off, and they started stretching the planes legs for business trips (SLC and LAS were always a fuel stop in the first plane, but now could be done non-stop).
We got the Challenger a year and a half ago. In the first 6 months, I flew it about 150 hours (which was a helluva lot). From month seven through 18, I have probably flown it 50 hours. Granted, we hired another Challenger typed pilot and Mike got his type, so we went from 3 qualified pilots to 5 (one being a contract pilot we no longer use, bringing the total back to 4). So, yes, "new-plane-itis is real. It'll pass.

Well I actually got a day off this week, the boss taketh and the boss giveth.

Sounds like the schedule of corporate generally sucks and most have it as bad as me, maybe worse. My boss had a plane before this and flew 5 days a month, which sounded good to me. I flew or was on the road 14 days last month for a total of 12.8 hours on the hobbs (not like I am getting much flight time) plus a few days of administrative duties.

I would say my boss changes the schedule 3 times a week and close to half my flights come with a notice at 5pm the night before. I have had to cancel 3 Dr.s appointments, how am I going to be able to apply for other jobs if I can't get my 1st class medical current?

Pt. 91 Lear 45 - single company/family
270hrs a year. 9.9 duty days/3.3 overnights a month.
Not on call
Trips schedule at least 7-10 days advance, usually it's more like 2-3 weeks. Least notice I've had in 2 years has been 24 hrs for a family emergency.
No hard days, but I get vacation. So if I can't get some thing done on the 20ish days off a month or it's important I just schedule vacation.
On Salary.
Hopefully I'll be here a while. :)

That was the job description I was given. Sounds very nice. This month is looking up though. I get two days skiing next weekend, Scuba diving at the end of the month.

Are you hiring? :)

100-120hrs a month; 6-7 days a week depending on who I have. O the life of a flight instructor (at least the tips are good)! It might not me corporate but I do teach a Microsoft Vp, so I teach someone who is corporate somewhere....

Get him to buy a 182, and hire you to become his pilot/instructor. That was my first corporate job. It was good money and good pay.

So I just narrowly escaped having to work 10 out of the first 12 days this month. The last trip popped up with as usual 12 hours notice. This was after having the first work-cation in two months and I was feeling pretty okay about my job, which changed after having two more days tacked on. My copilot decided to take one for the team and fly it solo, so I get two days off or at least till my phone rings. My boss is really going to miss me when I start working for AMTK. That sounds like a first class organization you are with. I thought they went out of business with the last recession.

Here is the photo from my bedroom yesterday morning. Views like this make being overworked a little easier to take.
