What's the coolest thing you've done in an airplane?

I've been a very lucky girl so far. Here's a few near the top:

Your 210 didn't end up looking like this one did it? ;-} Found this one on a flight this week currently rotting away on Exuma, Bahamas.

Nope. She's still out there flying around. I run into her every now and then. She actually looks better than when I was flying her.

The coolest thing I've done was my first grass landing. It was completely unsupervised, and only the third flight I had taken since getting my PPL. The runway was 2000' long with trees on both ends but there was a paved runway running perpendicularly through it, so I decided that I would stop before that. I brought it in about 20 feet over the trees and then dropped it right onto the runway, and made a perfect soft-field landing stopping just short of the 1000' point. It was just so much fun being able to just go and do something that I had never done before, with no instructor, because I had my license.

Second place goes to the aerobatic and spin flight I took in December. That's a whole new way of seeing aviation. It was also my first time flying a taildragger, which I landed 7 times and only almost-crashed once.

I think I've done a lot of cool things flying, and normally I don't even try to compare my 121 flying to my GA flying. However, the coolest thing I've done was something I've done many times before, but the date was what was so special.

Last September 11th, going from DC - LGA. At night, from like 70 miles away I could see the twin light beams. I flew up the Hudson at like 4,000 ft at night, with One World Trade lit up red white and blue.

Some of the coolest things, I wasn't able to get pictures of... here are a few memorable things I was able to snap a few. The Air Show circuit was by far the coolest flying I've done. Single and Multi Engine seaplane flying are also awesome.

This last picture was one of the most fun flights I've ever had, last minute decision to hop in a Mustang right before sunset... Made strafing runs on boats and other shenanigans... the last time I was in a Mustang. It was a surreal experience, just us two kids... spur of the moment.

Another one of my favorite flights was when I lead a two ship... with a Mustang on my wing out of Pittsburgh International... I threw a reservist C-130 pilot n the backseat of my aircraft... and my buddy threw another in his. We went out with no plan... did some low level extended trail and baby BFM. I'll never forget the sight of a P-51D in a turn circle, low level... turning hard and chasing each other through the terrain. It was risky and stupid in hindsight... but I wouldn't have changed a thing.

Been there many times, wondered how long it would sit for. Unfortunately, there is a wrecked plane just like this at just about every airport in the Bahamas.

I tried finding the crash info on this but it looks like the NTSB didn't investigate this crash as it's not in their database (minus a belly landing before this accident). I searched Bahamian crash records and couldn't find anything there either. Regardless, it looks like it was one hell of an ending to that airframe. Judging by the dent in the nose cone, broken plexi and folded wing, it looks like it dug in nose first and tipped up on one wing. Maybe cartwheeled?

Looks like it was flipped over in a hurricane to me.

Hacker is right on that one. That's the story when I asked the guys at the FBO about it.

Good to know no one rode that out then. I love this website. You find a broken airplane somewhere in the world and someone on here has the story.

The coolest thing for me in an airplane was last November when I passed the $200,000 mark for pay for the year while still a first officer.

That's terrific! Congrats! Any advice on how others can get to where you are?

Contrary to popular opinion, there are still high paying airline jobs out there. No magic formula to get where I am, just work hard and always be looking to advance up the career ladder.

Excellent advice. Have you been to a Network JC? You probably have a lot to offer the guys.
