What to charge for a flight review?

. It's also an important safety issue that needs to be explained. It's not safe to sign off a guy after 1.0 if he hasn't flown in 2 years...
I got signed off after 4 years with just 1.0 in the plane. Another 1.5 and I had an IPC. So, I'd be careful about making blanket statements.

Most pilots can be signed off after an hour in my experience. I'm not there to be a ballbuster or simulate a checkride. You cover the basics and let them know what the FAA has a hardon for that year.

Well easy now; I'm not making a rule. I'm saying that each case is different but that explaining what a BFR and IPC are can help in justifying charging more or less. I'm not saying it should be a ballbuster nor a check ride. I just want to make sure that the guy who will have my name on his logbook is ok, and if he's not then explain why... Nothing less, nothing more.
I've done one BFR to a good buddy of mine, and he was clearly rough everywhere. We went up another time, practiced and it was all good.

Two Fiddy....

Seriously, $250 flat rate for FRs & IPCs. I've been doing it for years. If they don't like it, they can find another CFI. That's only happened once in eight years and he was a PITA anyway. I still have about six clients who are on their third FR with me.

Last one I did, I charged $20. Gave me $40 and a PBR, not a bad tip. It was 1.1 dual given.

I give a big discount when students are well prepared :)

On my last FR I charged $250, got a $50 tip (that'll buy a lot of PBR) and got offered the use of his airplane. Not a bad for an evening's work.

Does this really happen much? I guess the owner figures you're covered insurance wise by your CFI insurance?

I have about 6 airplanes a can use with just a phone call. But I've also spent 7 years teaching in the area so a lot of it is built on reputation. Even early in on your teaching career if you find a student with their own plane and develop a relationship good thing can happen. The only problem becomes finding the time and affording the gas.
