Okay so I have a phone interview this morning for a new gig. I have a feeling it will come up "do you have a tailwheel endorsement?"

Now, some of you may have read the other thread.... but even as being National Champion collegiate aerobatic pilot in a tailwheel aircraft, funny thing is I DONT have a tailwheel endorsement in my book right now. School policy had us fly with a safety pilot and we never really got out to JUST practice landings. So I've got about 30 hours in the Super Decathlon and a dozen landings, but no endorsement.

The potential job starts in early June. I would obviously run get a tailwheel endorsement before then.

Should i tell them "yeah" I've got the endorsement?
or
tell them "no, but heres the story" and give them the convoluted story about it
 
I know you and I never agree on anything, but here's my .02. DON'T lie. Tell them what you posted here and see what happens. Lying to an employer can and will come back to bite you in the ass.
 
All they have to do is look at the date on your endorsement and they know that you lied to them during the phone interview. Not a good idea. It will catch up with you. Just be honest, and tell them that you will have it before the job starts.....
 
points noted, thats why i actually went to the community for advice this time ;)

oh and if it matters (or if anyone is familiar with Ugandan aviation regulations) I would be flying Ugandan registered aircraft... do they even have a tailwheel endorsement there? I'm unable to find anything on the internet about their air law...

As cliche as it sounds, honestly is the best policy. It's a lot easier not to get caught up in a lie, then lose a job that might have been yours if you were honest.... know what I mean?
 
Do you have time to get one this morning before the phone interview?

I wouldn't lie about it, not too hard for them to figure it out.

haha I wish I did, that would easily solve the problem!

but yeah you guys are all probably right on just giving them the straight talk on it!

Why should this even be a question? Sure, you might get away with it if they were lax about checking stuff, but it would say tons about your integrity.

I also might think about not playing up the "national champion" thing--it might look a little weird to be proclaiming that while only having 30hrs and no tailwheel endorsement.

Well obviously I was second guessing that theoretical move, since I looked for advice and thoughts.

Second, there's nothing weird about a legitimate title as conveyed by the legitimate governing authority (EAA/IAC) and I damn well worked hard to earn it, regardless of how few hours it took.

Anyway, the tailwheel plane duties would be secondary to the main job anyway. and its in Africa.

How hard would it be to see a phone interview that occurs on April 30th and a TW endorsement that occurs on April 30+?
 
Yeah, I'd just tell them what you said here, 30 hours a bunch of landings and will get the tail wheel tomorrow, or whenever. I'd leave out the National Champion bit, that's something you can list in the achievement section of your resume but don't start bragging about it during the phone interview, unless THEY bring it up. Being honest, humble and still willing to learn speaks volumes over the "I'm awesome, look how awesome I am!" attitude any day

They brought it up. They do a little barnstorming/tourist thrill ride stuff on the side and their current acro nut is going back to the UK this summer. :-)



ANYWAY, like I said guys, you all set me straight, and it was a dumb idea to even consider fibbing it. Learned lesson!
