If I am going on a XC, do I legally have to have things such as a weight and balance written out, fuel burn, t/o and landing distances etc on a piece of paper? Or, can I figure them and not have them recorded. JUst curious about hwat is legal.

I'm pretty sure this was answered before to say no.

if your plane is obviously overweight then it would be to your benefeit to put w/b on paper...just to make a ramp check go away sooner.

Under Part 91, legally you don't have to have anything written down. Just know that it can be done, that you are legal and within limits.

Many flight schools will require you to have this written as an internal policy. For example, DCA required students to fill out a full TOLD card before every flight. A little time consuming, but I thought was an excellent idea. However, some did get confused at checkride time and would tell the examiner that this was required (as per the regs).
