What is your plan B?

I am interested to know what some of you have planned out if, for instance, you lose your medical?

What is the plan if things go south for a professional pilot?

I am really at the beginning of this career and I need to start thinking about the what ifs.

Do you have a clear cut plan or is it more situational/go find a job?

-Knock on wood

Welp, I had considered gigolo, piano player in a bar, dog trainer or dance instructor. lol I really don't have too many other talents. But in truth, I saved money and had a good financial advisor, I invested well (most of the time-knock on wood), always bought used cars with low mileage, bought a little property, liquidated some things, I stayed out of debt, and I bought a crap ton of insurance. Multiple policies. Diversify your investments also.

You need a real financial plan for your future and you cannot start one too early in life. Find something you love that you would enjoy doing just as much as flying. Even if it doesn't necessarily pay as well. Live within your means. You really don't need as much crap as you think, to be comfortable and happy. Marry the right woman or man...... I can't stress that enough.

Maybe work a part-time gig- again of something you like, which is flexible, maybe unique and save that money and gain some experience doing something else. You never know what you can expand or the contacts you will meet or how the pieces of the puzzle may fall together. And if all else fails think of a small business (again-something you would be interested in and enjoy) that you can start if the crap does hit the fan, that won't take a lot of capital to launch off the dock.

I going to run for POTUS!

When they ask about the plans I'm going to say it's top secrete but believe me it's going to be good.

When I loose I'm going to say the election was rigged.

Damn ... i should gave been a gigolo.

Seriously, though, listen to the good advice. EVERY career, from aviator to minister, is fragile - despite our earnest desire and best intention. Sometimes things over which we have no control interrupt our deepest desire.

Be content with who you are. No one can take from you your self-worth and value to others, unless you let them. Circumstances don't dictate who you are. A loyal spouse is a wonderful support, but even they can drift to other places over time. Don't let anyone else determine your self-worth.

Make intelligent financial decisions. A cheaper car, a more modest first home, will put money into your pocket (for investing, perhaps?) instead of enriching the lenders. Save for your future. Invest. Don't worry about the "Joneses" and keeping up with their choices.

SAVE whatever you can. Five bucks, or ten, a week will matter over the longterm.

If you're getting a degree, do so in some field other than aviation. It will make you an asset to some other company in a different field, should you need it.

Recognize that life is about change, and be willing to roll with the punches.

We'll, I'm not going to lose my medical, but hypothetically...I'm a pretty good airframe mechanic, so probably either that or break my promise to my mother and become a professional artist. Maybe both.
If I was younger, I might use the skills I learned and developed in the Army and become a merc. But I'm not about that life anymore.
Wrench/rivet, and/or draw/paint is pretty much what I'm thinking. Maybe make armor and sell it online and/or at Renaissance Fairs too.
But I'm not going to lose my medical!

I would do something with IT. I'm teaching myself Web Development, and although I like it and I'm pretty good, it's not the same passion as aviation.
A job doing field support on all the computers/equipment at the Airport would be cool too. I need to work on getting more certification. Failing at that, I wouldn't mind hitting the road and getting my CDL. A friend of mind dose it, and easily makes more than a regional captain.

I would try to get into the training department at my company. If that doesn't work then I would probably go work for the government doing the same thing I used to do when I was in the military.

I also have a foreign license so if that country doesnt take away my medical too, then I'd try to find work abroad as a pilot.

Otherwise, maybe I would go back to school and try to become an architect.

So many options:

Sell AmWay goods...

Start a bogus church and ride around in a G650...

Live off the royalties of silent velcro...

Become a YouTube/ social media star and live off the endorsements...

If all that fails, Chipotle is hiring.
