What is your goal

Its all about who you know.
I had a ringing endorsement from one of the captains in the base I applied for, live in the base, rocked it in the interview, and the interviewer got overruled by the DO who wanted the guy who had the type. It'll all work out but it was a bit of a letdown.

Not a professional pilot like 99% of the denizens on JC, but I have. I joined here probably 12 years ago under a different screen name as a wanna be pilot (the change in careers and screen name seemed apropos). I see many who started the professional pilot path roughly when I did are all largely FO's at majors or quality LCC's. Looking at this site as often as I do I'm very jealous of the travel benefits and to a degree wonder just where I'd be if I kept on plugging along.

On the other hand I love going to work, I got incredibly lucky when the FAA hired me at my facility, I've had the worst of the worst happen and met the pilot on the other end after the fact. Also, my bed is just over there, so if you'll excuse me...

I'd be willing to bet that the position comes open often enough that it'll be yours if you keep in contact with them, and make sure they know you're still interested.
:)

I understand the career funk thing, I think we all feel it once we start taking active measures to move up and on.

Get paid to travel the world.
Be my own boss.
Freedom to do whatever I want (wealth).
Make the world a slightly better place than I found it.
Do something that will be remembered.

I think I could accomplish all of those things flying an Extra 300 upside down...

Long long term - Air Accident Investigator.

Plan:

Command
Line trainer
TRI/TRE
Safety department
MSc in something appropriate in my own time
Lots of networking

If anything, it'll be a darn good substitute for the above!

Lately I have given great consideration to going down the road of a scientist. Save the Air Force Reserve on the C-5 I have lacked that one goal, that one hell bent you sacrifice damn near everything for. I have been sacrificing, a lot. But for what, what is the end goal? Going to a regional air carrier just doesn't appeal to me.

Since this current gig has popped up for me and the work they do is unique. The owner of the company is a research scientist and has talked about graduate school as a route I could go. I would have tuition paid for, and an airplane to fly. My studies would involve climate research. That appeals to me, to be part of a bigger whole that is trying affect positive change. Like the Air Force, being part of a bigger whole turns my propeller.

Fixed wing EMS has always interested me. A more short-term goal (as in hopefully in the next few hundred hours) is trying to break into the freight world. I do have good contacts at 2 of my local freight operators, so I just have to figure out how to get my XC time up, which is something I'm having a hard time getting instructing (I do have a small time corporate gig, but at <100 hours per year, it's only a fraction of the flying I do). Perhaps a season of flying survey is in my future? Not only would it get me good XC experience and 135 IFR mins, but it would probably get me close to ATP mins too....

Look what I found on the webz

I hate my job and will never be happy after seeing this picture.

This is my new goal

I'd rather fly a cargo plane outta Hong Kong..
That's what I was thinking. Be so "dangerous" in an F-14 that you get demoted to flying a heavy transport full of rubber dog doodie in and out of Hong Kong Kai Tak for a living? Sounds like one hell of a career.

Currently my goal is to move on to a Major (my eyes are on JetBlue) that actually cares about their product and employees. Make enough money to enjoy my life and time away from work with my family and not have to stress about finances like a first year regional FO (those days were bad).
