I think it means there is a pilot on board? IDK
It's an old joke we used when we flew the DC9. The controllers would ask if we were RNAV equipped and we would respond, "No sir. We are radar-vector equipped though."
It implied that if he wanted to give us a vector we could go anywhere he liked.![]()

Heard over BGR approach
appr: BigSky 3580, direct TODDY
BSY3580: I'll take vectors direct
Appr: Bigsky 3580 turn right 080
/A is where its at![]()
Actually we had an instructor (that didn't last long) that put /G on every flight plan. The airplane had an ancient bendix King GPS that said at startup "VFR use only: To be used as an aid to situational awareness". He argued with me for three days that he was filing correctly; despite going to the FARs, The AIM, the GPS manual, etc....../A= slant alpha!
Not too hard to figure out!
Big time amateur move by Big Sky. When flying radar-vector equipped aircraft you suggest the heading to ATC, then they approve it. Saves them from figuring it out for you
For example...
ATC....Colgan XYZ cleared direct ALB.
Colgan XYZ.....How about a heading of 310 for ALB
ATC...Approved
