What is it like being an airline pilot captain for a major international airline?

Cptnchia, you and Derg are not working hard enough. My brother-in-law there made $500K+ in 2016 as a 320CA. He did fly a ton of GS's though. Took me over 3 years to make that in the same plane/position just before I retired. No sour grapes here; glad to see pay where it should be for everyone.

That's cool but I like being home and am basically lazy. :)

Yep, the goal is less time at work for maximum pay.

Another Jeep? What do/did you have?

Had a CJ5 back in high school. Wish I'd never sold it. Then, I had a Grand Cherokee when I got married. When it died, came the POS minivan.

Would love to get another CJ5/7 but the prices are ridiculous for them. Maybe go with a Rubicon.

Nice! I've got a 2006 Unlimited Rubicon (The long wheel base 2 door TJ) and 2016 Grand Cherokee. Always wondered if there were any other Jeep people on this site.

Have the 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee EcoDiesel. Absolutely love it! I had a Chevrolet trailblazer for 13 years and I miss that beast but the 13mpg was tough to justify on my 150 mile commute.

I always see a black one at landmark in ORF. That you? Looks really nice.

I've got a 17 JK unlimited. Well the lady does. I love it.

Sold the minivan. Wife drives a Suburban, son #1 has commandeered my Excursion. The others don't start driving for 2 more years.

Think I'll go get another Jeep.

Haha nice! Our second one (girl this time) comes in July. Need an SUV, wife has said no minivans at our young age. Narrowed down to the Acura MDX or Infiniti QX60. :)

Sheeesh! You airline guys with your big monies and fancy cars. To be honest, I'm a little jelly and regretful that I followed others' advice on what I should be and do with my life, instead of following my heart.
I can relate to the paycut comments though.
I wasted my life in engineering. Although I actually enjoyed it in college, it never felt right for me. I hated it as a career and left it to become a reactor operator instead.
Although it still wasn't what I really wanted to do, it got me out of engineering, it was something new/different, and I was making $130k+ every year. I wasn't very happy there though and always knew what I really wanted to do.
So, I took a massive 60% paycut when I left nuclear power a few years ago to chase this damn aviation dream/addiction that I've had since about 1972. No regerts so far about making the switch though!

I interviewed for a street captain job at a regional and one of the guys interviewing with me had left Emirates. He said it was pretty much unbearable. Had a story about a flight from DXB to India with a chief pilot. Said it was basically a 6 hour oral.
Can we all agree that were in a day and age of flying where we as pilots are all competent at that stage of the game. So to all you captains and chiefs who torture your flying mates.......knock it off. And no, you're not holding a professional standard or whatever other BS your excuse is for being a down right pain in the butt to fly with.
