What Is Better On A Resume..CFII Or MEI

After I get my CFI, which appeals more to employers? CFII or MEI. ( I will eventually get other in the long run).

But talking about getting a first CFI job at a busy flight school, which would help more..Having a II or MEI?

Six to five and pick-em.

Depends on where you're applying to. You likely won't start as an MEI, if they have multi's at all. Or, you may. It all depends.

II, for the flight school. While MEI is nice to have if they dont have a ton of Multi students then it wont matter. If you are a II you can teach instrument. I have taught a ton more instrument students then I have multi students.

get your II, ive somehow managed to make it pretty far without the MEI, and have no plan on getting it.

Double-eye. Allows you to do training flights in less-than-great weather (which is also good for your pocket). MEI is easy to add later. I know of a handful of schools that require their MEIs to also have their II to instruct in their twins.

And, from a non-flight school hiring angle, someone having a CFII gives me a good feeling about their instrument skills, but an MEI doesn't tell me a whole lot more about their multi skills than pure multi time.

I think you're asking the wrong question. It's not about what looks better on a resume, it's about what is best for you, and only you can answer that question. Where do you think you'll have the best return on your investment? It's probably worth while to step back and decide if you even need one of them at the moment. If you're a newly minted CFI I recommend you stick to sport/recreational/private pilot instruction. CFII & MEI are good long-term goals, but unless you need them to get your foot in the door for a first job, just stick with the basics. Aside from keeping your entry costs down, it will help you learn to be a good instructor before you get into more complex topics. I taught as a CFI-A for about 250 hrs before I added my II & MEI.

You don't have to look for a CFI job in today's market, the job looks for you.

Depends where you are trying to go with it. Some schools don't have any multi planes, so an MEI isnt of much use there. The II is a good rating to get, and I would most likely go CFI,II, MEI if it was me. And actually that's what I ended up doing.

is it that good? I'm planning on getting my I/II when I get back to florida in about 2-3 weeks. I made a post about it.

Basically I'm debating getting it with a freelance CFI that I did most of my training with, or at American Flyers.

I'd like AF because I know a few guys who did the cfi there and got a job there. but it's more expensive than my freelance cfi (by a long shot)

basically I'm trying to build 120-150 hours before october by CFI'ing. would AF be my best bet or get my CFI then look for a job elsewhere in SFL? I'd be ok with anything in the tricounty area as long as i get to fly a lot. I'm really trying to get over 400 hours before aerial survey season starts.

I think for the sake of time I am gonna go AF because that's CFI/II in 30 days... I doubt I could that with my CFI even though I really like the guy and everything.

I am about to start my CFI soon too. If your going to be living in FL you shouldn't have any issues finding a job. Get your CFI where its the best split between cost and timeline. I have had several people on this forum tell me Crystal River Aero Group for my CFI. I am seriously considering it also. I'm going to go down and visit them in a week or so. Theres also Sheble Aviation that I would suggest if you want it done quick but they cost a little more than AF. As for AF I have heard that your total cost is about $3500 plus checkride fees.

that's true. I had an extensive talk with my CFI today and I think I'll be going with him instead. as far as finding a job, I don't think it will be an issue especially in florida. I am almost certain the school at which I did my commercial will hire me, but I'll worry about that after I have the ticket.

By the way I've never used sheppard air for written tests before.

WHAT THE HELL, IT'S THE BIZZOMB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! totally worth the money not a doubt about it.

Sheppard Air is great! Look at AeroSim, Flight Safety Academy, and Aviator College (if you get your MEI). I also heard Aerosim will be hiring about 50 CFIs this summer. Good Luck!

wilco my friend. I will do that for sure. I'll get my MEI once I have a few hours of teaching under my belt (and the money to get the ticket :D)
