What is a "good" freight flying schedule?

Hey Mike I don't know if you heard or not, but I got 103 finally :rawk: Should be starting here soon whenever the current guy heads off to jet school.
Yeah I heard. Have fun. Now remember now that you aren't a floater anymore you actually have to be on time.:laff:
Strange concept for you guys I know.:sarcasm:

Haha now that was below the belt!!!

Funny thing is, most runs I fly I always get comments from the couriers on how EARLY I am compared to the normal line pilot :laff:

The greatest thing about TDY/"floating".....know one expects you to be on time that first day doing the run.

I'm still usually on time because I'm god's gift to freight flying.:sarcasm: :)

Yeah with the run cuts alot of guys are flying "paycheck power".
Faster I fly the faster I get home so I rather sleep then make more money.

Ive learned in freight there are three power settings

Normal power settings (SOP's)

Time building power settings (more turbine time)

And Friday power settings (hurry the ### home)

Remember that the hourly pay for many freight pilots is much lower than the hourly pay for regionals. So even though you're banking 8hrs a day it doesn't amount to much more than, well, regional pay for example.

When I left AMF I was earning around $15 per hour away from base, because I worked 1pm-6-7pm (I know, and I have had the bad schedules too and that comes down to more like $7-8). Currently at my regional it breaks down to $5.25 per hour away from base. Yikes!!

That's crazy talk . . . at FLX, we get paid the same from the time we check on duty at our base, until the minute we go off duty, back in base!

The 8/6 is popular at airnet but then you work every other weekend and are subject to the various things that floaters have to deal with. I lucked out and have an 8/6 fixed run, but the last day is reserve so really it is a 7/7 with a consistent amount of flight/duty/rig.

Yeah, in a way you lucked out, but you also missed out on some good experience with floating. It definitely keeps you sharper than just doing the same run every night.

The thing you have to keep a watch on is getting complacent, as it'll sneak up on you...trust me!:yar:

You also missed out on a fun winter in the Van. I'm sure you'll still be in it when the time comes next year, though;)

You're such a freight dog!!!! :nana2:

Oh come on, I'd much rather leave my charts in my bag the whole time ;)

All kidding aside, I completely agree. It takes a lot of discipline to "stay sharp" on a fixed run.

I like my current schedule. Flying for Flight Express I get about 5.8-6.0 hours each night and I work for 12.5. Only one catch. Report time is 1610 and off duty at 0445. Oh well, it will be better than when I get to STL. report times are at the latest 0530 for a 13.5 hour run.
