What I Would Do If I Was Not To Become a Pilot...

Being a professional pilot fills a lot of those attributes. The challenge of excelling in a dynamic environment is probably what I enjoy most about the career. The camraderie is good too...the opportunity to work with hundreds and hundreds of likeminded pros. It's unique.

Excellent insight - I also like the control you have over your schedule on a monthly basis. Even the psychological feeling of control - whether you bid differently or not - is comforting. You're not "locked in" to a set schedule.

I know several deputies that left to the 121 world, as well as an LAPD sergeant and two USSS Special Agents. They tell me it's not worth it in the long run. I must say that it's where I'd be if this job wasn't around.

As a guy typing this from inside (working in not housed in) a Jail in SoCal, It's not worth it. Been here 8 years, just put in my app at XJT. Never wanted to take a 60% cut in pay so bad in my life. Not saying I wouldn't like to be paid more, but that's what the regionals are paying, not trying to win the race to the bottom.:)

Elementary school teacher or a Middle East specialist for the Department of Defense. At least that's what my second degree will be in.

i have a lot of friends who are in the lasd. one of whom is a aero pilot! i go up with him time to time. one of the coolest jobs around!

I already tried to jump outta aviation once (ok maybe twice), but now that I've gotten a year or two into the profession I don't really WANT to do anything else. I really enjoy what I do, but it wasn't for ANY of the reasons that I got into this career. I just wanted to fly planes all the time, and I've realized that the flying part of this job is really a VERY small part of what you do. The challanges that come up on a daily basis with everything else that comes with being a professional pilot is the thing that keeps me interested in this career.

That being said, I'd be headed to law school if I couldn't do this anymore.

I'd be a muther $@# hustler.

If i were younger I'd go into ATC, but alas I am not. Firefighter, police. Architecht, lawyer, landscape designer...the list goes on.

I decided that I do not want to be a "pro pilot". I am still going to stick around aviation and do the weekend warrior gig.

Now I am leaning towards Investment Banking or some other Finance related job. Also Accounting would be a good track!

Most likely a Marine Biologist or an Architect.

"The sea was angry that day, my friends...Like an old man trying to send soup back at a deli..."

Seriously, one of the best episodes ever.

I found myself on top of the great fish...
Mammal.
Whatever.

I would become nomadic, sell all my stuff and travel the world as essentially a bum; eventually I'd probably find a job crewing a fishing ship, or.. something.

...probably a good thing the flying thing is working out for now :D

I would be a farmer. thats what most of my family is in.
My Grandad Stopped learning to fly to buy a color t.v for the kids!
And now he is a retired farmer.
