What have you done to further your career today?

It's a good place to be.

So here's a question for a person in your position: what have you done today in order to help somebody else reach their goal?

I'm also thinking about giving a no-notice evaluation to someone tomorrow... you airline guys have those?

Yes and no. You could get a line check, but you normally have a pretty good idea that it's coming since you know what month you're due for one. If the line check were unsat, you'd have to likely go back to the sim, so you'd know what was coming at that point.

Feds, on the other hand, can show up with or without prior notice.

Took my last flight on our b200 today :(

But next month I start a new 135 gig flying an even nicer b200 and either a citation or Lear 31 in 3 months.

Wooooo, no more primary flight instructing, I survived 600 hours of it!!!!

I won't out him, but a JC member was very helpful in the decision making progress :)

I have recommended 2 people to replace me at my current 91 FO gig, and helped 3 new instructors have an increased student load.

I actually had a friend in his late 20's text me he is interested in "a pilot career". Like, I want to have a job as a pilot. In spite of my history here with these sort of things I'm at loss what to say. No passion for flying. Just thinks it would be a good job. He would think 40k a year is great money. No degree or interest in that. I was going to send him to Alaska...

Honest question, is your history one of "keep your job and buy a plane for fun"?

From my experience, people with out a passion for flying up here fold pretty quick under the weather, bush life and manual labor.

No. Closest thing to that is buy a plane to train in. Which might not be a bad idea...
I just couldn't remember. I'm in the same boat as your friend, with the exception of having both a passion for flying and a degree.
