What happens when...

Not to mention all the helo trainers there. We get the 44 out of there asap when we fly.

Yeah, all those dopes trying to do right traffic or trying to stay in the left pattern with the fixed wings, I know the new airport manager has made some complaints to the FAA, but it will probably take a midair to get something done about it.

Seems like every day somebody gets in a radio argument about what patern is supposed to be used, or that helicopters can use a different pattern.

I just get the hell out of there.

MikeOH58, I think the guy that called the tower on you is really questioning your manhood and skillz about your ability to spot-bomb a 5 lb bag of flour onto the hood of his car in his driveway. Deep down inside, that is really what he wants you to do, as that is why he leaves it out in the driveway. Possible :sarcasm:

cluster bombing makes a sure hit more likely

No confrontation. You're in the right, and he's an idiot. He would have to PROVE you were in violation (not the other way around).

When I was doing flight instruction at USAFA (in Colorado Springs) we had a guy that would call and make a noise complaint about our planes. He said we made too much noise as we transitioned over his house. OK--three things to keep in mind:

1) we were 3000' AGL.
2) we were flying a recip
3) he lived 1 mile off the departure end of COS!

Eventually he gave up...

"Yeah, all those dopes trying to do right traffic or trying to stay in the left pattern with the fixed wings"
By regs we are supposed to stay out of the way of fixed wing traffic. I have flown a few patterns down there and it is nightmare. At U42 we fly tighter and lower it works out pretty well. But there they want us in the same pattern. I don't like it anymore than you men.

I think the biggest problem is that those giving the instruction dont really have a clue what they are doing from a regs/ safety standpoint. One of our instructors told one of those guys that reg (91.126 I think) over the radio and he came back that helicopters have different regs. :banghead:

Except that the reg specifically states helicopters should avoid the flow of fixed wing traffic.

The thing that bothers me the most about it is that those students are learning bad habits and practices, that they will either have to unlearn or get shafted on in the future.

Like I said, I takes off, and I gits me the hells out o' there.

Then run the gauntlet (UVSC "practice areas").

Flying at U77 certainly sharpens your see and avoid skills.

Wonder how long before they get a tower?

Might not be till after there is a midair, but the airport already needs one most days. I can't count the number of near misses just in the last month. I was on short final a few weeks ago (by short final I mean over SF main street, like less than 100 yards from the threshold) and saw an autogyro that was doing right traffic turning in on me and I missed him by not more than 20 feet.

Then add in all the guys that make no radio calls and take the runway without looking up the approach path. That happened to another flight schools plane just on monday, missed the incursion by about 20 feet. He made one of the funniest yet scary radio calls I have ever heard:

"Going around, looking for clean undies"

the wild wild west man. I need to get down there soon. When I finish my CFI I will be down there everyday. Flying that nice orange and black set of helos.

Those guys are actually pretty good, not to mention highly visible. Its the "other ones" that make me mad. Let me know when you are down here, I will be instructing out of there once I finish my ride (23rd).

I need to come down next week to fly I seem to be having trouble with my autos these days. I will have to pm you when I head down.
