By being in RVSM airspace (above FL290), it is recommended we use the autopilot, so we do.
Isn't it required, not just recommended?
/I don't get up that high.
question...
how do you guys use an ipod with earphones? especially when ure flying a by urself? what about the radio calls and all? I dont think i'd ever listen to an ipod (anything with earphones unless it cuts out when a radio incomes)
I would probably just read a magazine or something?
I think it might be required. We flew SEA-SLC with an inoperative autopilot and we couldn't enter RVSM airspace. If my feeble mind remembers, I'll try to look it up in the ops specs manual a little later.
You can get them at radio shack, the little dooodadd that will cut in any time there is transmission.
Me and the captain I have been flying with the past few months play the 'numbers game'
Just start saying random numbers such as 32 to 38 and the other guy has to explain what the number is, what system it is for, why is it important, what we have to do if the item is out of that limit, etc.
Keeps you sharp on the systems.
Also I like to talk about hypothetical situations, "what would you do if..."
Hey everyone,
I don't know if this has been posted but I couldn't find it anywhere. I was just curious as to what goes on during mid-flight when autopilot is engaged. Is it mostly just watching the screens and scenery. Could some provide what a typical flight consists from beginning to end. Thanks.
(Coordinate this with the flight attendants....so you know when the movie starts....you don't really want to interrupt the movie. I will, however. If I want to say something I don't really care about the movie.)

Seggy, TWO out of the three guys in your Avatar have been to my house. When are YOU comin' over?
The grill operates year round, 365.
You don't have the blue movie light? it was right next to the blue lav occupied light on the a/c I flew. Movie pauses anyway.
Agree with your post, sometimes straight and level cruise isn't that glamorous, and yes, there are actually flying duties to accomplish.
Beats four turns ORD-MKE, though.
Please don't tell us you are flying single pilot and READING THE PAPER!!!!
You would be amazed at how easy it is for . . . umm, some people . . . to read and fly single pilot, with no autopilot. . .
