What Flying Superstitions Do You Have?

I always wear my seatbelt on the van ride to and from the airport.

I love the social interaction that comes along with the seatbelt in the van thing. Seems that most people don't wear it, some do, but my favorite thing is watching someone that does silently (or not!) judging others for not wearing it, and some of the reactions to that. I've seen this several times.

I pat the nose of my airplanes during preflight...

I do this as well flying GA airplanes, got this from a friend of mine that swears on his life that his Yak 55 will spite him on the next flight if he doesn't do it but will run perfect every time if he does. I don't do this at work, probably should haha.

Not sure if it is a superstition or just a pattern, but I check flight controls in a certain order in a syncopated rhythm and I count off under my breath like I'm counting off time while playing guitar.

I do the "pat the airplane when boarding commercial flights" thing. In the Navajo I ALWAYS do a circle around the airplane before I get in (no matter how late I'm running) and make sure all the doors (especially the nose!) are closed up properly.

I always do a walkaround, even if I just left to go use the crapper. I know that sounds like "obviously normal and sound practice" to some segments of the JC population, but I assure you I've gotten some strange looks from dudes in the more, uh, "interesting" parts of Aviation for doing it. To the point that it feels like a superstition to me.

May have something to do with that time I was riding with a contract guy to carry our freight and pick up my broken airplane, stopped for a storm, took off in a hurry, and landed to find about 4 ft of tail tie-down dangling from the back of the dude's 210...
Or a rudder gust lock. Turns out they fall off on the takeoff roll. They told me during training.

You people are insane. :)

Only thing I'm OCD about is hitting "recall" again before crossing the hold bars for takeoff.

I constantly check the wing in flight. I guess I'm paranoid.

There's a Mooney at my airport, N666RG.

That's like November Mark of the Beast, Retractable Gear. I don't know if it's ever been geared up.

I never make plans while on the road because every time I do something happens. Trips change, or planes break.

That's about it. Guess I'm not very superstitious.
I try not to list on my commute home if there's a chance that scheduling could sscrew me in some way.

G1000? I remember when I found that button, controller said that he in fact did not say what I thought he said, so I held my mic up to the speaker and pushed that button for him to hear :)

Nah, latest and greatest avionics for model year 1982, though.

So what does your recall button do? Play that last transmission back? What in the heck does that look like on 1982 avionics? Record it to vinyl?
