Now, my question is what, in your eyes, does it take?

My usual answer is, you need to be someone who can always be 2 steps ahead of the airplane and the environment your flying in. You need to be able to multi-task as well as always be aware of what is going on around you. I think it takes VERY special people to be good, sound, well-rounded pilots.
