What does it mean do you have any restrictions on your medical?

I have see a couple of pilot applications that ask if you have any restrictions on your medical certificate. I have a special issuance and have to have a provide information from my doctor to the Flight Surgeon every year even to just allow my class 2 to degrade to a class 3.

Is that what they are asking about on the application if you have a special issuance or are they asking something else?

Thanks

I always figured they were asking about the little box that says things like "holder must wear corrective lenses.". My roomie can't fly at night. Things like that

Correct. Anything listed in the restriction portion. I have to use corrective lenses. That's a restriction.

A restriction is anything written in the box below your name on the medical certificate.

So for example mine says "Holder shall possess glasses for near/intermediate vision."

Mine also has "Not valid for any class after (insert 12 month later end of month date)"

I have a special issuance so I have to sent in doctor reports before 12 months passes if I want my class 2 to down grade to a class 3 so I just get a class 2 every year.

So my restrictions would be currently:
"Holder shall possess glasses for near/intermediate vision." and "Not valid for any class after 5/31/2016"

Is that correct?

Thanks

Until you see the AME and request a Class 2 you will have the same restriction, A class 2 is good for 1 year, if you want a class 3 for 2 years, the FAA will probably Require ( depending on the medical reason) require information on a yearly basis...your actual "Physical" is good for 2 years, the AME will issue you an interim medical at the 12 month mark once he gets the paperwork.

OK what about "Waivers" on a medical is that the same thing?
Waiver or Soda? Waiver is like a special issuance, a SODA is a Certificate they give you that means you do not have to send anything to the FAA. Usually that is given if you have gone through the FSDO Flight Standard District Office to get clearance.

The question was on an application for a pilot job they ask if you have any waivers.

I have a special issuance my medical is not valid for any class after 12 months until I send in the lab reports requested by the the local medical folks at the FSDO NW Mountain. They are in Washington state and so am I. I have had a special issuance since I started flying in 2002. Yes I just learned last year that I have the option to just sent in the requested tests I can slide to a class 3 medical for the second year just like everyone else my age.

Thanks
