Want to Buy What do you use to shine the de-ice boots?

My boss gave me some homework over the past few days to find out what to use on the de-ice boots of a 421C and an Aztec at work. The 421C is up for sale and needs to look it's best so we're trying to literally "pimp" it out to make it look great for customers. The Aztec just needs to look good in general as we just got it for our fleet at Illinois Aviation. So once again, I'm just looking for something to tell him what to get for those boots, but it will just need to be something that doesn't really mess with the actual rubber. All replies welcome, thanks for your time. Hope to see some of you around Chicago.

:yeahthat:

You have to strip off the old sealant and then apply the new sealant. It is kind of a pain, but if you want to truly "pimp it out" then that is what you will have to do. Good luck!

I have been told that Pledge cleaner does about the same thing as icex, but I would not do anything to make the boots look better than they are!

IceX is a silicone-based fluid with other chemicals added. I am not saying that pledge couldn't do a similar thing, but they are miles apart as far as what they are so I am doubtful.

There was a Seneca out of ptk that had the boots removed and the bleed line holes still in the leading edge. instead of fixing the paint they just painted the leading edge black.

In my experience PBS is by far the best for the job. Icex works well but seems to seep back on the wing in flight and looks awful afterwards. I use lacquer thinner to strip the boots before applying the PBS sealant. PBS sells their own stripper but lacquer works much better. Make sure to remove all the old sealant off before reapplying, and tape off the boots to avoid damaging paint. Follow the directions on the PBS bottle, using a rag of sponge to apply the sealant. Let one coat dry and then apply another one. It usually takes 2 or 3 coats. Overall it is a relatively simple process and definitely makes the boots look new. PM if you need any more info or help.
