what do you plan your C-182 at?

Looks like we might be thinking about picking a 182..

Just curious as to what these things cruise at.. Just read 140kts, is this accurate?

I fly one with a few mods to it. I can get it to cruise at the bottom of the yellow which is 160 mph.

With that, it'll burn about 15-18gph. I have leaned it out to 12 gph which is just shy of 7 hours of endurance. If I can remember it was moving along around 110mph.

It's a great airplane that can climb at 1500 fpm with a light load. But like I said, it has some mod's to it.

Yeh, the one I guess we are "looking at" is a 2002 model..

I know zero about 182's.. My dad's partner has gotten on this C-182 kick.. ;)

I fly a T182 often and usually plan on 15 GPH and 150 KTAS.

Up around 13-17,000' it's not uncommon to get 180-200 over the ground.

Overall, great airplanes.

i flew an older c182n. would do 125-130 kias. 14 gph. it had a 230hp engine and STOL kit. loved having to covert mph to kias

Yeh, we want something that can pull 4 adults and my sisters luggage...

Then you should get a Saratoga or a Cherokee 6 with the big engine. Four people and bags in a 182 would be pushing it wieght wise and very uncomfortable.

Alex.

As a general rule, the late model Cessnas will perform to book value or slightly better.

The older generations on the other hand almost always perform slightly worse than specs.

We'll have to check out a Saratoga.. I think it's going to be a lil' more than we're looking to pay..

I think we're trying to stay in the ~$200K range..

There are a lot more, those are just an example. Sure they are older than the 182s in the same price range, but they will do the job you want to use it for much better than a 182.

If you're serious, scrap the 182. You will consistently be going overweight with 4 people and women's luggage.

And then, you'll be tempted to push the envelope with weight when you guys need to go somewhere.

We're not going to push the limits of the aircraft.. We've been making the Diamond and the 172 work for years now.. We're just ready to get something a little more capable than the these aircraft..

I'll mention the Saratoga to those with the money, but I'm pretty sure we're not buying anything much older than a "recent" model from the discussions I've been a part of..

Yeh, my pops has always loved the Bonanza..

I'll mention it and see what happens..

i like the way the Six's doors fit together. plenty of room for a bicycle (small motorcycle) or small COW!

Yeah, as a 1981 172 owner, I find it funny reading the POH estimated speeds and comparing them to actual. Even when our old 1972 Skyhawk had an overhaul, didn't even come close.

Also, look into the Comanche 250. They are mx hogs, but have a REALLY low price point and can haul about as much as you can stuff in it.

My old flying club in Dallas has a Cherokee 6. I never got to fly it, but the thing was bulletproof in terms of MX, and hauled people and cargo like a train. It was the club SUV, as it were.
