Thats because you pointy-nose guys are slaves to radar and HUD.

F-16 guy thought I was crazy once wanting to do a formation instrument trail departure into the WX, versus a radar trail (since we had no radar), like he was formerly used to. Slave to the radar once he got it.....

Just fly the departure at the briefed airspeed and I see no problems. Then again, it is still a little spooky doing it through a solid 10-20k ft layer with various level offs and such.
