What do you do in the hotel...

Seems like whenever I have more than a few hours in a hotel I get extremely bored. What do you guys do on a layover?

work out, jc, phone with family, go out?

I spend so much time in hotels (sometimes up to a month). I usually:
sleep
workout
watch tv
play on the internet
find good local restuarants outside of the franchise realm
Coffee shops and bookstores
I'm going to try to get to a few pro sports games
Study for upgrades
Just cruise around if I have a crew car
Hit the local bars, pubs, and clubs on the weekend

One of the things I hate about my gig is that I usually have to do all of that by myself. It would be cool to have a crew to hang out with.

All of the above.

I can't stand staying in a hotel room for very long, I don't care how nice it is!

I used to travel for business a lot and I have to say, a lot of my coworkers were slam clickers.

Me, on the other hand? I would go and find something to do. It doesn't matter what city you're in, you can find something going on.

Why would you go to a new city, or a city you've been to before, and just sit in the hotel room?

Somebody's got to say it...

p0rn?

I try to get out side and walk/run a bit. Some places we stay that isn't possible (cough Memphis cough) but elsewhere I am normally successful. I download full seasons of TV shows on bit torrent and catch up on those. Listen to internet radio. Work on various websites. Hang out on Camfrog. Sleep. Post on here. Watch TV (but no so much so). Work out. Fun stuff like that.

When I'm a hotel room I'm simply happy that I'm not sharing a one bedroom apartment with 12 of my closest friends. And by closest friends, I really mean 10 guys from Continental that I can't keep track of beacuse they're playing musical bases and 1 guy from my class.

Get the F/As liquored up and...

LOL...I was waiting for you...you didn't disappoint.....WildCougar - watch out for Velo!!!

I think your activity in your hotel is determined by how tired you are. I usually try to get a workout or some sort of physical activity in. If I had a rough day, I grab some reading material and slam click. I also might mosey on down to the bar to see if there are any hunky pilots hanging about. :D

But I'm also a chick, so if there is some good shopping around, well there you go!

This got me thinking about something I just came across for all you hotel sitters.

Regarding the cable locks on some of the TVs, take one piece of toilet paper and a traditional BIC styled pen cap. Then force the TP up into the cable lock and use the pen cap to jam it in there further. The objective is to turn the actual cable lock into the wrench to undo the coax cable. In this case, the TP will bind between the cable lock and coax nut, allowing the cable to be removed.

Untested by me, but it may help those professional pilots that, ah, need to for some reason plug something else into the TV.

The Mexican E! channel is much different than the one we get up here!

Aha! I love the "golden" channel in mexico. Who knows how many pistol whippings and food poisonings I've avoided by staying in and wathching late night "golden" instead of venturing out into the awesomeness of those central mexican manufcaturing-complexes?

Well, typically by the time we hit the hotel in PVD I'm usually beat. However, some of the things I've done are:

1. Walk to the gas station and buy some hot dogs if I have any money.
2. Watch Food TV and eat Top Ramen wishing I had what Emeril was making.
3. Hit any of the buffets in the function rooms...Had cracked crab and oysters on the half-shell one night.
4. Walk to Bertucci's for some AWESOME wood-fired oven pizza.
5. Study the FOPP (wait, thats total BS. I only do that if I can't sleep)
6. Call home see how everyone is doing.
7. Watch TV

The Radisson at PVD is one of the best hotels I've stayed since I've been at CJC. The only better one is the Hawthorne Suites in MCO while teaching in the sim.

Happy Holidays!

for sports games, its always cool to put like 5 bucks on a game because you really get into it :)

Join Netflix, get a laptop, and hope for free broadband at the hotel!. That's what I do when my job sends me on the road...

I go up to the roof with a 3 wood and a bag of golf balls I stole from the last golf course I happened to be in the vicinity of and hit golf balls into the parking lot. Then when the balls run out I flash my laser pointer at Mesa jets ( I pinpoint the bastards on flight aware). And when the inevitable Police helicopter starts heading my way I jump off the roof, deploy my Lara Croft para-glide suit and sail elegantly down to the patio of a nearby bar where I have a fresh Heineken waiting..(Called in my order from the roof)...Then proceed to watch Velo wrangle his harem of drunken flight attendants into doing his evil bidding....It's rather entertaining to watch...no really. :bandit:

But....that's only on those LGA overnights in the summertime...rest of the year I run an illegal gambling operation on the internet from my laptop.
