What do you airline guys do in cruise?

…and break rule #1 you're told on day one… Do something wrong? NEVER SPEAK TO THE MEDIA.

#AMARITE, @Richman? :)

You are correct, sir.

No good, and I mean none, zero, nada, {empty}. zilch, niente, nyet, good can come from it.

If you see a bro about to do something something like this, walk, conjole, or drag him/her away to a cool, dry place.

Now everyone chant "Richman is good, Richman is wise" 3 times while spinning counterclockwise, and return to your normally scheduled interwebz.

Ok, enough of this making the job sound like its rocket science or a free for all. In all seriousness, this is what a regional pilot does. Yesterday I engaged in:

Rumors
Frequency change
What makes you angry about scheduling
Frequency change
Frequency change
Jepp revisions (I had a lot because I had been off a few weeks)
Frequency change
More rumors
"Man I wish they gave us more gas"
"Yeah I hear you, so...uhh, standby..." (Frequency change)

This was all on a 30min flight through the NE.

In seriousness, I enjoy small talk. I have seen everything from silence, to looking at maps for every second down the route, to reading a USA today, to listening to music, to revisions, to pay sheet analysis. It really varies. It tends to be busy on departure and arrival with getting Atis and setting speeds and getting gate assignments and talking to the FA and Pax and getting set up for the approach. Cruise is boring but most guys I've seen just have small talk, usually about the same thing every week. It's no wonder everyone stays mad and bitter. That's all you ever do is validate each other in your gripes with the company or ATC or the plane or whatever.

"Daggumit, the crowd's back. Honey, I'm gonna crack open the front door, take a stab at the company and clear everything up. Fix me a cup of Sanka, I'll BRB."

I speak that way because I'm educated, dingleberry! :)

Me too!

I'd pay cash money if more people switched to Sanka.

Range the MFD out to 160 miles and display airports. Query dispatch on possible diversion to each one as it touches the 80nm mark, just in case. I send my computed LDW and speeds for each field and ask for verification as well as potential services available to passengers on arrival. This of course is especially crucial at uncontrolled fields.

Seriously? The whole time?

Weight & Balance for the next leg
How? I don't think I have ever picked up freight where it actually matched the paperwork.
"Ugghh, why are there 15 boxes? The paperwork says there should be 2. How the hell are we going to fit these?"
