Exactly. The degree criteria is simply one way to weed out candidates. 20/20 vision used to be required...now its not. If they get desperate enough for pilots, that requirement will disappear as well.

I don't speak from airline experience at all, unlike others, but I highly doubt they.... the airline execs, are looking at it from that point of view....as you suggest, surreal.
That is just not a nice way to think or to say..IMO. Ohhhh, the hostility that always precedes you.

I'm sure execs do not think that, but wouldn't it be grand if they did?
Perhaps wanting a finer individual in the cockpit than the people buying their seats @ $78 one way to MCI?
What can I say? I'm not a huge fan of the everyday Airline traveler in their wife-beater and flip-flops.
I stand by that comment.
