Considering you can see the rooster tails from the engines in the ocean, I’m going to go with this being as dodgy as it looks and not an optical illusion.

I thought the article on Flightaware about this was bad, that happened to include comments from an "aviation professional", and a 737 pilot from the US. Who knows how or why they got as low as they did but whatever happened it looks like they caught it and went around.

If that's the case, that's "the automation should have been shed a mile ago" low. But anybody could make a mistake, at least they went around before they smacked into the sea wall.

A little short field landing setup. Doesnt look terrible, a bit dragged in but not gross. Not like a vector headed to the water thats unrecoverable.

Plane approaches airport in bad weather, approach becomes unstable, go around is initiated, second approach is successful.

I would have added gobs of power and dragged it on in for a nice short field and a some titillation for the tourists on the beach. You can't buy that kind of marketing.

There's not enough videos out there showing rooster tails from airliners.
