Went down the Hudson corridor today!

Weather was perfect, traffic was at a minimum, the views were stunning. I've lived here all my life, but today I felt like a tourist. Stay on the right, constantly announce your position and you'll be fine.

Aw man, very cool. Did you have an instructor with you or did you do it solo? How much prep did you have to put into it?

I had my instructor with me, I'm still a student :D

We had a brief discussion as to where we'd be turning, what altitudes we'd need to stay at and what frequency we had to announce on. He did most of the flying though, I was busy snapping shots. It wasn't as scary as I thought it'd be, we had a few choppers flying abeam/over us but we kept communicating the entire time with no problems. We could have contacted LGA and flown through the class B with FF but decided on staying below it and getting a closer view.

That's all uncontrolled through there correct? There's just a unicom frequency right?

BTW, I thought your post subject said "Went down in the Hudson corridor today" lol

Some of the best NYC pics I think I have ever seen. I've wanted to go to NY my entire life. Any sponsors? ;)

More right rudder

Otherwise, nicely done! You didn't take any pictures of the Jersey side of the Hudson, that's the best part!!!

Thanks for the comments everyone.

Right rudder, right rudder, i'll chant it to sleep tonight. Who wants to see the Jersey side anyway! It's all just mansions :p

Make sure you go through at night and dusk. Beautiful flight.

Watch out for Helo's!:laff:

Definitely can't wait to go back at night. Those helo guys are fearless, the entire area is a huge playground for them. This was taken through the rear passenger window. He was cruising right beside us.

In the second picture on the left side underneath the bridge you can see a small red lighthouse. That red light house was built before the bridge. It makes sense if you look at the land as it sticks out in that spot.

Some USAir captain pointed this out when I was in his jumpseat coming into LGA. Pretty cool you got a shot of it.

Every one of those pics show the reason why I love being a NY'er. We all get our tourist moments, I'm dying to take a helicopter tour of NYC.

Very very nice amin !
is that one of chris's cessnas (AOA)?
did you go all the way up to the tappanzee?
There are 3 helipads in manhattan , one on the east side (30th St and the west side hwy) just near the intrepid
another one on the south street seaport and the last one on 23rd st and the FDR near the water-club , that explains all the traffic , News , Police , Tours , and US Helicopter ,they commute from and to JFK for 80 bucks a person .

That's all uncontrolled through there correct? There's just a unicom frequency right?

technically it is uncontrolled, but you are flying under two Bravo airspaces EWR and JFK, as long as you keep altitude , you good to go !
