Well not so good news...

I never had a problem with lazy 8's - it was those stupid 8's-on-pylons.

Stupid maneuver.

I busted my (in-house) CSEL ride at ERAU on 8's-on-pylons. I exited before I reached my entry heading and immediately realized exactly what I had done wrong. It was my last maneuver and we had 45 minutes before due-back time, yet the IP wouldn't let me retry it.

:) I will always have fond memories of that maneuver.

Lets just say it was Deer Hunting season here in Kansas when I was practicing these. I called them 8's on Deer Stands. I always had these images of Billy Bob all liquored up in his Deer stand, saying "Hey Earl, that damn plane is scaring the deer, lets shoot his ass"

You know, the whole time I was in Kansas and Missouri, I never saw a deer. Not one deer!!!

Well thanks for all the remarks guys. It truely was a learning experience. I've got the re-check next week and I'll let you all know how it goes.

Busted checkrides are frustrating, but once they're done there's nothing much you can do but learn. The most frustrating one I had was my multi checkride. We had two types of GPS in our Seminoles at my school. Half had the KLN89B, half had the G430. I knew the 430 inside out, but was admittedly lacking in the 89b. Through some stroke of luck, there were only 2 or 3 flights in my multi training where I got a plane with the 89b. One of them happened to be my checkride. The whole thing went really well until she had me do a single engine vector to final GPS overlay approach. I completely blanked on how to do the vector to final part so I busted it.

And of course on the retest, I got one of the planes with the 430 where when you load an approach with vectors to final all you have to do is select "vectors to final" wheras with the 89 you have to do some crazy stuff with the OBS button (if I remember correctly). Live and learn.

Yeah I got busted on my 8's on pylons as well. Couldn't do them to save my life. On my CFI checkride I started in the wrong direction on the 8's on pylon but the guy was nice enough to let me do it over. Then it went well after that.

Busted my first SEC check with those DAMN POWEROFF 180's off by 150 feet, God I sucked that day. Got up, dust off, move on. Just got hired with CHQ.

Don't sweat a busted checkride--it happens. I busted THREE just in pilot training (something about landing a T-38 took a while for me to figger out! :) )

Like the other guys said, live and learn... :)
