Weird Headset Issue

Taxi and takeoff- headset works fine

Climbing to altitude- bursts of static noise from the microphone- whether I'm talking into the mic or not- to the point of the radios being unhearable.

Have tried:

Turning on/off ANR
Switching mono/stereo
Volume
Squelch controls on audio panel
General fiddling with the jacks

The only way to get rid of the static is to unplug the microphone jack.

Then upon landing, the headset works fine again.

This has happened in two different airplanes, so I'm guessing it's probably not an issue of a particular airplane.

Any thoughts? I'm using a Lightspeed 20K. I've called their Tech Support but they had no suggestions.

I had similar but slightly different faults with two lightspeed headsets. Usually it was the mic dropping out. The problem is caused by strain on the wires that over time has worn the strain relief at the ANR box, and then pulls on the connections inside. Its weird and intermittent. I took my two to lightspeed and they fixed one (to the point of putting new padding, muff and even fresh batteries) at no charge and I upgraded to the Zulu with the other. Their customer service is usually excellent.
