Watch

Honestly, unless you are just into watches (absolutely no problem with that), a $20 Casio will serve just as well as something far more expensive.

I still wear the Citizen Wingman C080 that my mother got me for my 21st birthday. Had a later model Citizen, but the build quality stank and it imploded after 5-6 years.

The C080, IMHO, had the best set of functionality of all the Citizen watches...something they never matched. All it really lacks is a backlight. It finally died after 20 years, so I surfed eBay and got another to rob for parts, and it's still ticking.

I have a titanium Breitling. My GF got it for me. Nice, shiny, spendy watch. And every twink on the planet has one, so mine sits in the closet. They're right up there with Raybans for pilot stereotypes. If I need a "dress" watch, I have an old Gucci that my mother also gave me.

Be that as it may, I only wear a watch at work. On my time off, I consider my time to be my time, and so refuse to keep track or drum to another's beat.

Ironically, nothing says "I'm a private pilot and I want everyone to know it!" more than a Citizen Skyhawk/Navihawk.

Absolutely. My Wingman is such an antique, though, not many would recognize it as such.

Of course, the problem with "antique digital" watches is than when they break, they are hard broke. The guts of my first one blew out the hand movement and lost a couple segments in the display. When I went to replace it, I found that NIB replacements can be found on eBAY, but command a high premium. Instead, I got a beater, and transplanted the guts into my frame. The hands on that one crapped out, too, but I was able to do a bit of cleaning and get it back to operating.

The other issue is that the original rubber straps are so brittle now from age, even NIB, that they are hardly worth using. Even the stock leather bands break after very little use. I've gone through about 3 of the stock leather straps. in the last 3 years.
