Remember, if you want to pursue a professional flying career, it is still a GREAT option to go to a traditional four year state school, get a degree outside of aviation, and do your flight training at a local FBO.
A lot of rumblings lately with ATP, their association to Mountain State and that school loosing their accreditation, as well as a lot of summer 'this is my plan, what do you think?' postings lately and I wanted to remind everyone of a simpler way of looking at things.
Enjoy the journey!
Who is the hottie in your second picture?Your Degree is more than just what you learn about in class.

Or if you want to go to an Aviation Related School (all below went to 'The Harvard of the Skies', except the gentleman with the Fedora, BUT he did go to a sausage fest type of school)...

IMO, want to fly? Go to a regular school, use one of the ROTC programs and let the military pay for your flight training...and school too.
Well spoken. As one of the MSU/ATP "rumblers" I'd just like to add one caveat. The ATP/MSU partnership is/was the first decent option for Veterans using the Post 9-11 GI Bill to have all costs paid with nothing out of pocket. Do classes online with MSU, go fly at ATP. For the ATP haters, honestly, I couldn't give a hoot who was doing the training (well, maybe if it was American Flyers or Illinois Aviation Academy I'd have second thoughts). In this case, this partnership was the gift horse, and I was not happy about being forced to watch that gift horse get turned into Alpo.
And an active duty service obligation.... How wonderful ... LOLIt will work out perfectly in the cargo/tanker community of USAF/USN but ...

Yes but you get the best flight training in the world, fly the best aircraft (debatable lol) and serve your nation. Not sure what you mean about working out perfectly in the cargo/tanker community??
I see your point and agree, but how does that affect those already using Veteran's benefits?

Say you got rotary hours and some, I hear most, employers don't count those hours in if you want the heavies down the line! I am in the beginning of this journey so we will see, employers like ExpressJet might count what little helo hours I have but if I was a C-17 pilot with 6 years under my belt and got out after initial ADSO, I would have been golden compared to a low hour Apache pilot like me! That is what I meant! Fighter dudes usually stay in for the long haul as far as I know.
No question military flight training gives the best structured, disciplined training, gives you excellent work and study habits and those go a long way throughout your career, whether military or civilian... And I can tell you, I am confident to say we do fly the best aircraft in our military, regardless of branch. Debatable but it is my firm belief.
So I got my FAA Commercial ticket FOR FREE, you are right, when military pays for it! I need my FW add-ons and the degree and I might have some benefits left to transfer to my better half.
Ah, makes sense now. I forgot too, 50% of all Navy pilots are helo pilots and 75% of Marine Corps pilots are helo pilots.
BTW, Apache's rock![]()
Don't know. I just used the post 9/11 GI Bill for my masters and will use it for my type rating as well...maybe ATP?? Certainly, use those veteran benefits.
Sorry man, it was a rhetorical question....lol
I just want to know from Qutch if he's accepting applications for instructors? And how I'd the pay? I'd take a free t-shirt, for the first semester of internet instruction. Is a masters in death, destruction, and mayhem available?
Does that make me a Phoenix?
