Waiting List/Contract

Does anyone know what the situation is with hiring and the contract you are expected to sign? I know FSI just hired a bunch of instructors so the list is about finished, but do they need any more? Also, if you get hired do you immediately sign the contract or do you wait until standz? Just trying to understand the options available...

I'm not certian but I'll take a jab at it since no one else has. Contract is for 800hrs and I would assume you sign it before stan because the contract is basicly saying that you'll have to pay for the 'free' stan class if you leave before your contact is up. Well this month has around 15 new students so far which is pretty good and when American Eagle program starts that should hopefully attract more students. Also if the airforce program goes ahead then they'll definatly need more instructors, that's going to account for somthing like (don't quote me on this) 1500 students a year, and 20 new aircraft, those students being trained only upto private or solo I forget which. Plus the whole fact the airlines (well regionals at least) are hiring again should increase student intake.

So you think the contract is signed just before standz? I also heard that if you are on the list for direct track, you get pulled off as soon as you start standz, so you cannot stay on the list and teach at the same time.

Any thoughts on the internships?

Well, I'm starting standardization (aka standz) on the 19th so I don't know for sure, but I believe that the 800 hour contract refers to the fact that they pay for your CFII and MEI and if you leave before the 800 hours, you have to repay them for that training, not the standardization. But, like I said I haven't started yet so I won't be able to say for sure until then.

As far as the other point of being taken off the list for the direct track, I don't have any idea about that either.

Some help I am, huh?

Snow, what is the Air Force thing that you are referring to? I haven't heard anything about it yet. Also, any mention on the Eagle thing? They have been talking about it for a while now but it has yet to materialize.

I have heard talk of the Eagle contract since almost the beginning of the year. Each time I ask, I am told that the contract should be signed any week now...but still no contract. I don't think it has anything to do with the folks at FSI in Vero but is a FSI corporate issue. Either way, the contract has not materialized, and I would not depend on it any time soon. Of course, now that I said that, the contract may get going tomorrow!

FSI is applying for a contract to carry out basic flight training for US Airforce pilots. If sucessful it will involve training 1500 odd students and getting 20 new 'airforce approved' aircraft, which are two seater Katanas I think.

As for the American Eagle direct program, all I know is discussions are being held and when it goes through we'll be getting a new lvl D CRJ or ERJ sim, and the King Air and Citation sims will be moved over near the Swiss Air buildings. Word has it they are willing to accept 20 students a month.

If you go through the CFI program and do not get hired, do you have any chance of working at FSA in the future? Say if they are short on instructors, would they prefer that someone that got their CFI there get hired before they hired someone from the outside?

There are a couple of things that you can do. 1st, you can complete your CFII and try again or you can start working somewhere else and then re-interview once you have given 200 hours of instruction. At least that's what I've come to understand from a couple people who didn't get hired the first time.

I'm pretty sure its going to be an ERJ sim.

I don't believe there are any firm plans for this...but I have heard rumors for several months. No one at the school was ever able to confirm any of these, although I haven't asked for about two months.

It's an ERJ145 Level D full motion simulator. The King Air and the CE have been moved to the Swiss Air building and the SAAB is getting ready to be moved over so the ERJ can be installed. Should be up and running in about a month.

The Citation and King Air sims are still in the Sim bay in the training building.

The sims are being moved This Sun-Tuesday. The parking lot in back of the training buiklding will be closed off during that time. The King Air and Citation will not be up and running until the middle of August. During that time they are also suppose to start installing the ERJ.

so, if the ERJ sim, is going to be place in Vero, does that mean tha American Eagle is going ahead with the Fast track program??

Um, they're moving them right now rather, I passed the King Air sim being moved on a forklift through the parking lot on the walk over here just about an hour ago /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Also did someone say move the SAAB? I don't think the SAAB is going anywhere, plus other than ripping down the wall or disasembling the sim I don't see how it could get out of the sim bay as it's larger than the opening in the wall. Which also means if the new ERJ sim is the same size as the SAAB that could make things interesting, I'll be watching that with great interest /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

They are only moving the SAAB sim a few feet to the side in order for the ERJ sim to be moved in. Then it will be moved back to its original spot. Whats bad is that after moving the sim only a few feet, it will be down to get re-certified.
