So ill be turning 18 over the summer and since i will also be moving to Florida in the fall, how do i work out registering to vote. Im from California and I wanted to know where to i register to vote. Here, and use an absentee ballot, or register when im in florida?

Back in high school, we had an assembly in the auditorium about voting, for the seniors, and we were given registration cards.

The speaker told us that when we go off to college in another state, if you register to vote in the different state, than you lose your parents' health insurance coverage or something. I'd go with the absentee ballot.
 
Typically, you register to vote in the city where you are a permanent resident...where is your permanent residence? do you plan on making florida your permanent residence?

If your only moving to florida for school, then you'd be a temporary resident and your california residency would stay permanent...

when you register, register for an absentee ballot or early ballot and don't change your permanent residency until after the election... besides, it takes, I think, 2 years to gain residency when you move to florida....but don't quote me on that.. it's been a while now since i've lived there.
 
I have a funny recollection of Florida's residency requirement being really short, like 6 months, because they wanted to hook all of the snow birds into their net. In fact, what I'm thinking I remember was that it was a requirement to register as a resident if you lived there for that amount of time....

Just a fuzzy memory of something I thought I heard once, so it's probably wrong. I do like spreading idle gossip once in a while, though, so I'll go ahead and post this anyway. Especially since I don't feel like researching to back up my *expert* opinion....

im not planning on making FL my permanent state of residence as it will only be for school. so i think ill end up using an absentee ballot.

btw, will the ERAU address ill get @ orientation be ok for them to send the ballot to?! i know they dont want PO BOX adresses.

I don't know about California, but when I voted absentee from Oregon at ERAU and in the military, I had the ballots sent to my PO Boxes and Oregon didn't really have a problem with that.

You may have to supply them with an actual residence address (the school's physical address) but they shouldn't have a problem with sending it to the PO Box.
 
you could always have it sent to your permanent address and have your parents mail it over to you!
