VOR's and Morse Code

VOR\'s and Morse Code

Rumor has it that out East, all of the VOR Identifiers are actually the names of the VOR rather than a morse code. Is that true? If so, does anyone know when that change will make it's way out West? It seems rather silly to continue to use morse code, when the same recording could just say the name of the VOR, in PLAIN ENGLISH!!! :-)

Many VORs in many parts of the country will state the name of the VOR, along with the Morse Code Identifier - IF the station has voice capabilities.

I've never heard that. Also, morse code can more easily be picked up through static/interference than spoken words. A little archaic but if it works, it works.

Under dificult conditions of reception Morse code it is eassier to understand than the spoken word
