VLJ Taxi flying

One proposal is to centralize all ATC centers to one location. One controller will handle a flight all the way across the country. No handoffs.

But that is also tied to switching over to satalite radios, I believe.

Something needs to be done as our current comms network is showing a) it's age and b) it's limitations.

I think it'll work just not on the large scale that may be portrayed.

But there's the problem - it DOESN'T work unless on the scale portrayed because the fixed costs kill you.

In the end it'll add a few small aircraft to the overall charter fleet and some curiosity private ownership (in my opinion).

No, no no, it's revolutionary!

It's not a small jet, it's a VLJ.

It'll change the world! You'll get on the internet, book a seat and fly from your backyard to the grocery store!

The businessmen who booked away from CRJ's because of workspace issues will jump on the VLJ in droves with less workspace and higher fees.

:)

I think VLJs are just going to siphon off the rest of the people who always fly first class on the 121 carriers. The rich folks who don't own are already flying charter or fractional, VLJs will just bring the cost for those segments. As I've said before, I think insurance requirements will prevent most owner-operator types of arrangements. I foresee the fractional operators scooping up most of the VLJs to hit the market.

That's gonna be really good . . .

"No, not the MABNE intersection - MABNY! The Destination is Springfield, not . . . oh, nevermind. Leaving FL230 for 17,000 - I'll cancel in a moment.":)
Not to mention security concerns! Hit one building and cripple the entire nation's ATC!

That's my guess on what's going to happen. Lower the cost of entry to the frac market and drives more 1st/business class flyers away from the airlines. The taxis might work in some limited markets, but I can't see how the taxis can succeed on the scale that the industry predicts.

I had my doubts about the viablility of this new product. But based on the consistently negative prognoses on this forum I may change my mind. If everyone here thinks it's a stinker it could be a winner. (re "Let it Ride" with Richard Dreyfuss)

I am sticking with my main prediction that SWA will continue to do just fine.

With that I agree! Most of the SWA naysayers are just angry that SWA is a success where everyone else fails!
