Visiting the flight deck

I've always had great experiences with flight deck visits - an ExpressJet CA gave me his printed flight plans and ACARS stuff (it was a long sheet of paper - I guess that's what it was..) after the flight, which was neat.

Another time a very new-looking Comair CRJ-700 FO was showing me around the flight deck before the flight. Apparently he liked me, because he invited me back afterwards and let me call PHL ops to tell them our flight's final weights. Really cool experience.

... Or do I just burst through the cockpit door and demand, as a paying pax, a tour?

I hope you're not serious about that one. Regardless of your status as a paying pax, the flight crew does not owe you a trip to the flight deck.

I love visitors! Seriously, if the pilots on my flight from VIS to SFO back in 1976 shunned a starry-eyed 5 year old, I'd probably be working in the porn industry or something. Most guys I work with welcome cockpit visitors on the ground, time permitting.

Basically try to board as early as possible and ask the flight attendant to visit the cockpit. Bring a camera too.

Airfare to Madrid, Paris, or Germany - around 3K

A 9 megapixel camera - 647.36

A flight deck tour of a 763 with Doug Taylor (With pics to share on JC) - PRICELESS:D

I asked the FO if I could speak with the captain. she asked 'some guy wants to talk to you guys' and ca said bring him in. i came in, and they told me to sit down at the jumpseat, we talked for a bit, I asked few questions about FMC, told my intentions etc, and thanked them, and left. I can't wait til they come up to my cockpit :D

Seriously man, any time.

Who in the hell would I be if I told someone "Go away, fanboy!"

Too bad the TSA won't let you thru security without a boarding pass, I'd have a 767 "show and tell" day before a trip starts.

Hey, where did you get those? I'd love to get a few to give out to kids that stop in.

Where I work there is a bag of them in the customer car dufflebag that is stored in an overhead in the back of the plane. So, the flight attendant can also give the kids the wings during the flight even if they don't stop by the cockpit.

Yet another example of why your company is a class act.

BTW, what's a 'customer car dufflebag?' Just a typo? NVM....I'm thinking you meant 'care.' That's a good one! You've got a dufflebag devoted to the care of customers?! What other sort of goodies are stored in that bag of wonder?

Guess what, Cruise? The Q has that customer care bag as well (stocked with all kinds of good stuff, including Kiddie Wings...
Come on over to the "dark side" and you'll see for yourself!

Here's another idea. If you see a bizjet sitting at your local aerodrome and the crew is just killing time at the FBO, ask 'em for a tour of their plane. 99% of the time they'd be glad to accomodate you, and it might be a bit more leisurely than a Pt 121 operation about to leave. These planes also have very interesting flight decks and much more interesting cabins.

You're always welcome up front if I'm there. Even if it's a 20 minute turn or whatever the crap may be. If we're running late or something, it may be a quick visit . . . but come on up anyway. If the Captain gives me crap, I'll knock his teeth out, and you can visit.

Can you please update your sig? Anyone with 1024x768 or less has to scroll horizontally because of your wide picture at the bottom of every one of your posts. It's really annoying.
