Virgin Atlantic sacks 13 staff after Facebook criticism

You consider those "slutty pics"?

"Slutty"? Yup.

Pornographic? Absolutely not. PG-13? Sure.

But slutty? Yup, they qualify. "Slutty" is a relative term. What's "slutty" to one is not for another. However, when taken into consideration not only the pose, but the attire worn and the location of the pictures, they are, in my opinion, slutty. :)

Oh, Amber, get with the program, would you? FAs are supposed to portray the image of sluttiness, aren't they? Sheesh. Why else would the airlines keep us employed?

The first amendment applies to the GOVERNMENT. It does not apply to a private employer.
I did not say it did, but there are a number of federal and state laws that I would say are based upon the spirit of the first amendment.

Private companies that provide a service that could be considered a utility are effected -- if you're a telephone company you can not say 'You can not use our telephone service to criticise our service, or to talk about kittens', an internet ISP can not say 'You can not use our internet service to talk bad about us online on your blog.'

In most states you can not fire someone for expressing their political views either, the government has an interest to protect that speech.

But your correct in that most speech is unprotected vs a private party.

It's funny, most western nations have some sort of just cause or due process built into their employment law but most states in the USA are at-will employment, so it gives your boss the ability to muzzle you in some cases even when you are outside of work.

This is a great article about the subject:

I'd say the big thing is not that you have an account on facebook (I do). It's rather what you're willing (should) to disclose. Facebook can be tricky....especially with the videos. If any of your friends comment on a video/picture, all of their friends can see the video/entire picture album even if they are not on your friendslist. Thats a serious flaw on facebook.

good thing all i have up there are oktoberfest and NJC karaoke videos! :)

Facebook is actually for those past college years as well. it's a lot better than reunion.com or classmates.com IMO

Myspace i think is just for the HS and under crowd.

Nice job, if there was a way to take something that maybe 10 people in the world would read and ensure that it gets read by hundreds of thousands of people, they found it.
