Virgin Atlantic charging for exit row seats now?

Can you believe this story? Their spokeswoman says the policy "has been very well received." I'd like to meet the guy who thanked them for the opportunity to spend another $75 or $150 for the pleasure of an extra 3 inches of space. Seems to me it's at the very least an even trade - you get the extra room, you take responsibility to secure that exit in case of an emergency.

Add a quick jingle, a neat paint scheme and sprinkle in some folklore and people will line up every time.

What's the difference between this and paying an extra $500 on a Business-Class seat?

Oh man, transcontinental? LOTS! Wooo!

International? night and day.

I'd like to see how it feels to have lots of legroom...I've flown in the back more than a few times for 12-15 hours flights....those knees get a little sore!!!!

I have sat in an exit row the last couple times I have flown, and both times I got sick as it was SO cold. I am not sure if it is because the door is drafty or what, but it sucked!

GRAB A BLANKET LAIN AND ENJOY THE SPACE....I AM 6'5 AND DO NOT FIT IN A NORMAL SEAT...IRONICALLY I FIT THE BEST IN TEH -88. I FLY DELTA MOST OFTEN AND HAVE BEEN ON THE 737 AND -88 FREQUENTLY, AND FIND TEH -88 SUITS ME THE BEST...HOWEVER TEH A-320 I WAS JUST ON HAS DOUBLE LEG ROOM IN THE EXIT ROW....SO NICE.

I had enough blankets to keep all of the homeless in New York warm!!! A sweatshirt would have been ideal however flying the summer you rarely take on - I also think you will find a difference between a 2-3 hour flight, and a 14 hour one!!!!!

If you can find an int'l business class seat that's only $500 more than self loading cargo, let me know! That's a steal because the difference is enormous.

And that's just from UA which has a sort of middle of the road business class.

Me too! For transatlantic from Houston you are looking at a $3,000 difference between the full economy fare ($4,000) and the business fare ($7,000). The average guy is probably paying around $800 so that's a $6000+ difference from economy to business class!

And yes, those United business seats are pretty sad looking!

The difference internationally is so grand that unless Kristie and I can ride "Business Elite", we won't even fly overseas.

Oh, my God, if you can get business class, do it. On my trip to SIN, I was in business class. I did my New Zealand trip in coach.

The difference was incredible.

Hey, maybe that's a better way to describe how much pilots make.
If senior pilot at a major airline commands a 747 overseas to Europe, his net paycheck does not give him enough money to buy the return ticket in business class.

Check my math. $300/hr * 8 hours = 2400. Won't get you back!
