Video Recording Flight Instruction

Would you allow both audio & video of your in-flight instruction session?

I just had a student ask me if its ok to record our lessons..... my knee jerk reaction is that video is fine, but I am not sure I am comfortable with audio .... for the record I have ~ 800 hours total time, ~ 150 CFI time.

Can you please share your opinion on this.... do you allow it and/or would you allow it?

thanks

If this topic already exists, just point me to it... thanks

I've done recordings before. Make sure you know what you are talking about for the lesson and don't say stupid stuff that all the pilots on youtube say.

edit: If you don't know tell the student that you will look it up together in books.

Currently working on my C-MEL, I asked my instructor and he was fine with it. It's def a great way to reinforce the lesson and to catch things I may not have processed in the moment. However I always ask if I publish any of our videos/photos (say like a landing or something cool) on facebook/instagram.

Only if your hair is looking good... Tony Robbins good.

@Eddie_X59 , a nice little bit discussion on this topic in this video from both a student and instructors. Again, comes down to what you and the student agree will happen with the video after its initial debrief use (e.g. publication to the internet or kept for private reference).

Video debriefs were a part of my military flying career for the better part of 20 years, so I'm very comfortable with being recorded and value what video truth is worth after the flight. That being said, because much of the videos were classified I rarely had to worry about what I said or did ending up on the internet for public consumption.

Then, there was the time that I got called into the General's office to explain the quippy comments my WSO and I made on a video of us dropping bombs during the Iraq war that weren't "CNN-worthy"....

I think it is a great debriefing tool.

I have a strict policy when I record video or audio in the cockpit with another pilot, whether CFI or student or just a friend. it will not be made public without the other person seeing it and giving permission,
