Anyone know anything about this airline? They have a dispatcher opening posted on indeed.

Looks like they fly the EMB 120 and ERJ 145 with scheduled service to about 12 destinations including several West Virginia destinations. But other than that I haven't been able to find much about them.

What I am most curious about...

"Must have excellent decision and communication skills and be able to engage callers at the customer, colleague and vendor level." - seems to imply you will be dealing directly with customers over the phone? How much time would normally be spent doing that, is it a big part of the job?

"Must be able to have reliable internet access at home as well." - does this mean there will be days where there is the possibility to work from home? I can't think of any other reason why it would matter how good your home internet is.

Any info is appreciated, thanks!

It definitely sounds like a "jack of all trades" position at this place. I would be leery of going there, biggest reason for me is that it says you're responsible for ensuring crews get adequate FAR rest. Those are some complicated rules nowadays and I really don't feel that should be a dispatch function - you've got enough other stuff to deal with. Basically, all of these duties listed in the description I think fall outside the traditional dispatch purview:
  • Ensure crewmembers are briefed on assignments and scheduled according to FAR Part 121 duty and rest restrictions
  • Coordinate services with FBOs, fuel providers and other vendors as necessary
  • Coordinate with crew scheduling, maintenance, gates and managers to repair schedule during abnormal operations
  • Enter passenger manifests and ensure TSA rules are complied with
  • Ensure clients/gates/crew are kept apprised of information pertaining to their flights; including tail numbers, delays or other relevant data
  • Other duties as assigned.
I have no idea why they want you to have reliable internet access at home, but it may be due to the "other duties as assigned" catch-all, or some other type of non-dispatch work. I wouldn't be surprised if they say this is a "salary" position with no extra money paid for overtime or all those other duties they assign to you, and I also wouldn't be surprised to find out that salary is rather low.

If it's a small airline, then they'll have you wearing many hats-just like at any small business...

I understand...having worked at a startup airline where we did the dispatching along with any necessary swaps/cancellations...but this sounds like too many hats to be wearing to me.

I just checked their website and went to their careers page. Guess what? They have NO dispatcher openings listed! Where did

I just went to their website, flyviaair.com, and read their 'About Us' section. They say that they do charters in addition to scheduled flying. From the OP, it sounded like a 135 operation...

The indeed.com listing is still up, but I didn't check their web site. It may be an old posting that they are no longer hiring for, of course.

Yea I did see that part about the charter flying. Under the job description it says "Prepare flight releases, weather, NOTAM and performance data for all 121 flights" but I didn't see any mention of part 135 duties so I wasn't really sure how that worked. I guess that could fall under the umbrella of "Other duties as assigned" though. But I'm not all too familiar with how that is normally done at an airline that does both. Like do they also staff separate flight followers that work the 135 flights? From the sound of this listing I'm guessing at least at this airline you basically do everything.

I'm not sure why the posting isn't on their website. I discovered it through the weekly job update emails that Jeremy from Jeppesen sends out to former students. It wasn't in the email last week but it was in this weeks, and indeed says the listing is 7 days old. Maybe it just got filled really quickly? Seems fast but maybe for a small airline they don't have to jump through as many hoops to hire someone.

Well thanks for all the insight everyone. Much appreciated as always. If there's anyone on here that has ever worked there or knows someone who does/has and has any more specifics, that would be great. But honestly it sounds like it's probably not what I'm looking for right now. Maybe down the road if I don't find something better.
