class delta airspace. would i be legal for pattern work i know that you must be 500' below clouds but does that go for pattern work also?

I don't recall any exceptions for cloud distance separation...

However, you might be able to get a special VFR clearance to work in the pattern under these conditions. Call up the tower and ask. (You must be at least a private pilot to request SVFR clearances during the day.)

Fly the pattern at 900...that way it's legal. It's not technically a regulation to be 1000AGL and as long as you meet all the obstacle clearance reg's you are fine. Just keep the pattern a little closer to the runway so if there is a power failure you can still make it.

If you're at the same level as the ceiling but a mile away from cloud, you're still meeting the requirements right?

[/ QUOTE ]Yes, but I think it safe to assume that the question contemplates that the ceiling is over the traffic pattern.

Probably one of the most commonly busted regs in Socal.

I do a knowledge test as part of the ground portion of flight reviews and one question involves a similar scenario. Asks whether you can land and at what altitude to fly the pattern.

And, RABIRZA69? Where in Brooklyn? I grew up in Bensonhurst.
