VFR hour build cross country from Florida to North Carolina

hey,

just a quickie. Im still getting through my hour building so me and a friend have decided on another large trip to North Carolina.

We have the aircraft booked for tomorrow. (weather permitting)

We have already been to the lower Georgia region and recently went to Birmingham AL. So we thought what direction is next. We decided to go visit Kill devil hills in North Carolina for the obvious reason, we are unsure of exactly what is down there but we are interested all the same. Ive also heard North Carolina is a realy nice state?

I just wondered if anyone had any advice? towns to visit? airports to visit? either once we are there or en route?

I no its short notice sorry!

If you plan on flying the return trip at night, you might as well head over to Manteo (MQI) and get a crew car. Ask for a recommendation from the FBO attendant on a good local seafood restaurant. Actually, if you're into seafood, just about any airport along the coast will yield tasteful results; Beaufort/Brunswick, NC, Hilton Head, SC, Brunswick, GA. If you stop at Hilton Head, ask for Tad and tell him Travis from the old Sea Breeze Airways told you to stop by.

yeh we plan to fly at night, yeh that sounds good thanks, we always seem to get a car and end up at taco bell haha. seafood sounds like a nice change! thanks

No Instrument Rating? Just a guess...

NC is a beautiful state, and if you want some fun flying, venture over to the Western part of the state and fly around the mountains a bit. If you do happen to come this direction, a visit to Asheville is warranted, especially if you're into cool, extreme liberal propaganda and the like. Cool city. Of course, I'm a wee bit biased. ;)

anyway im back! thanks for the airport suggestions. we went mateo after stopping at the first flight airfield.

we actully decided to go further and planned up to richmond in virginia and then came back down and spent a few hours in Norfolk's FBO bunk room :laff:

then we headed back, which was kinda rushed due to the threat of vis dropping and showers covering the route home!

anyway was a great experience, learnt loads..

Oh, ok...I was just wondering cause when I do time building I always struggle whether to go IFR or VFR....glad your trip was a success.

If you come back up to NC again, go to Rutherford NC. I don't know if you like banana pudding, but they have some of the best around. There is also a good barbecue place that's not on the maps but I could get you the location of it. They have a grass strip with a camera in one of the eating rooms so you can watch people take off and land.

sounds good, yeh id love to come up again. got 30hours to play with before i do my CPL. trying to make the most of them!
