Very Light Jets

"blood bath", "VLJ's falling out of the skies"???

You really think so? I think that the requirement for a type rating (they are jets, after all), and the training and experience requirements that the insurance companies will probably be demanding will prevent most of that. Makes for good soundbites, though. :)

I think this will make the fork tailed doctor killer look like a walk in the park. Just my opinion of course.

The type rating is a joke - if you can afford the plane you can afford the time it takes to handle a V1 cut, 3 approaches and a SE landing - that's not what it takes to operate these planes for real - in my opinion.

Initially - without the operating experience, insurance will just be expensive, but if you can afford the plane you can afford the insurance, or you just don't buy insurance.

OK - maybe I'm guilty of hyperbole - but I do think there will be an excessive number of accidents/incidents (what's the number, 1 a month?) and this will set a perception in the travelling public's mind for years to come (so long the air taxi idea) and eventually somebody will have to call a halt to the whole thing - but now you make the point - yep, probably the insurance companies :-).

I don't know - maybe I'm wrong - hell I'm a professional pilot, I want all the planes flying out there I can get, more options for me to earn a living, but the business side of me says this one's going to be a doozy......

If these things are going .66 Im gonna turn into NJ CAPT.

No doubt. "Airliner 123, slow to slowest practical airspeed, turn left 20 degrees for sequence, your traffic is a doctor in a VLJ at flight level 320.."
