The problem is I want to go theoretically but the actual thought of doing it is terrible so I'm trying to figure out the easiest way to get as close to a pencil whipped degree as possible.
Ease into it by taking a single course first. Perhaps you could audit one, so no penalty if you flunk it / discover it's not the right time & place. (But then, it's more time until the degree without more credit to show for it, so I really don't advise auditing in your circumstances). Don't tell the school you're looking for the easy way. That runs contrary to their mind-set and values!
This is not an easy thing to overlay on a demanding work schedule and family life. Takes extra managing on your part, and understanding, acceptance & participation from family.
Having said that, there are lots of friends on this site (and I presume in your life) that have done it. Most succeeded and found it was worthwhile. It's also not a forever thing; there is an end in sight.
Pencil-whipped these days may translate into keyboard-whipped. On-line may offer the advantages of graphite without the cedar shavings and gray powder mess. See my earlier post about accredited programs, and avoid wasting your time & money at an un-accredited school. Might as well get a mail-order preacher's certificate
. I did on-line for grad school, in part because I expected to have to do a job move (which also meant a geographic relocation) in the middle of things, and that came true. I was in a mid-career Masters program, and they don't transfer worth a hoot to another school in another state. People who were transferred had to keep flying back to finish up where they started.Feel free to PM me if you need more specific discussion or a pep talk.
Good luck!
