Vasovagal episode

Hi!

The other week I had fainted because I saw a horrific event which led me to getting a major cut on the back of my head and a trip to the ER.

I was released later that night after a CT scan clearing me of any injury. Just got some staples in my head. The ER report also states it was a vasovagal episode.

I had went to my primary care doctor for a follow up and got a note from him that said I was seen for a vasovagal episode and have no medical history of this ever happening.

I know I need to report this to the FAA by the means of going through my AME. Is this something that is disqualifying? How worried should I be?

From my reading, vasovagal episodes are certifiable, but I am sure they are going to want full documentation on it when you next apply for a medical. My recommendation would be to call Dr. Bruce Chien and ask him what you will need to submit. That way you know and can prepare for it. From what I have read, it's the heart-condition and unexplainable fainting episodes that the FAA doesn't like.

I had something similar happen. I reported it. Because I did that gave me a history of syncope. Because of this, I had to see a neurologist every time I renewed my medical for 2 or 3 years. Sucked because I didn't have insurance and MRI's aren't cheap.

Funny part was while seeing what was going on with my medical (deferred due to reporting it) a guy at OKC said "Why did you even report that?"

Honestly though, I am glad I dealt with a few years of BS and money knowing it'll never come back to haunt me.
