Utah Independant CFI's - Possible Start Up/Advice

Hey guys,

Unfotunately, after graduation in 09' I had to take a desk job to provide for my then pregnant wife, etc. etc. etc. blah, blah, blah. So, no flying for me. Just trying to get back in the saddle after almost a two year dryspell of no flying and zero dual given.

So, after some discussion with a couple of people, I think that I might be able to drum up some business. This is where the problem is though. I have no clue where to find an aircraft (besides the local classified ads, and it's slim pickins) and, i'm not sure if any local flight school would be so nice as to rent aircraft for independant instructional purposes. Plus, there's the problem of finding insurance, and geting my BFR. because i'm way overdue for one. I'm probablly missing other things as I haven't done this before. Not finding much for old threads on this subject, so i thought i'd post it here.

Any suggestions would be welcome, especially from SLC guys. thanks.

Also, I havent seen any SLC CFI job postings for awhile. any info would be much appreciated.
 
might have to move out of SLC into a place with more flight schools. AZ & FL come to mind as having fairly good CFI job markets... other than that, get current and start sending out your resume and banging on doors!
 
Been there...

Try your best to get everything current. Find a school that you wouldn't mind instructing with and do you currency and flight review with them. Let them know your goals and why you are there. That way they get to know you, you get to know them, and they may decide to offer you some instructing time afterwards.

I found it best to get to the airport in person rather than just shooting off a resume. Shake a few hands and meet the local pilots.

Yeah, check out Leading Edge Aviation. I talked to their director of flight operations a few weeks ago, and he said that they are definitely looking for instructors.
