USS Harry S. Truman Collision

If anything happens with shipping Sal is my first source for accurate, unbiased, and balanced reporting.
Yeah, the low production value is more than made up for in content.

He correctly threw shade at the Navy’s administrative and disciplinary handling of the GOODMAN DICK fire in his latest video too. “You don’t get to keep being captain unless you lose your ship due to fire in port.”

Seems like he hasn’t uploaded yet but Ward Carroll is my go-to Navy guy. Usually more of the inside/personnel scoop.

And there it is…Couldn’t even finish deployment. Career is over.

“In a staement following an earlier version of this post, the Navy said the commander of USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN-69) Capt. Christopher “Chowdah” Hill will command Truman in the interim.”.

^^ very interesting as TheIKE is in a PIA and they def need someone leading the way during that time.

Guy I've been flying with all month knew Captain Snowden in the Navy. Said he was a good dude and was sad to see whatever was going to happen to him.

I believe his words were, "You hit something with a carrier and you ain't going to be having a band play at your retirement."

You get to skip a boring change of command ceremony and you plan your own retirement party with your friends and your band.

That's what the XO is for.

I agree, though I'd also add, shoot two F/A-18's on final to the carrier you are the shotgun cruiser for, and I guess you still get the band. Looking at you Gettysburg......

i remember when i was a brand new nugget - we were running back to the SOCAL coast at 30kts after a pump and dump outside 50 miles and i didn't notice a single light on the horizon blended in with the background lights of Southern california.... there wasn't anything on the radar....

then that single light went from blended in with the background lights, got really large casting a shadow into the bridge, then zipped right past the starboard bridge wing and disappeared astern into our wake.... instinctively - "right full rudder" then everyone went running out into the starboard bridge wing.

i just nearly run over a sailboat - we see the sailboat rocking violently in our wake - we just gave everyone sleeping on that sailboat the rudest wake up call... the white light was it's all around mast head light. there was no relative bearing change for the longest time, then we missed it by not very much - then large fast bearing change

still i never really got the concept of no bearing change means risk of collision until much later when we were putzing around Puget sound, picking up people out of the water and so we were drifting in close proximity of a buoy and there was no bearing change in the buoy as we were drifting picking up people. which meant that if we didn't do anything we were going to run over the buoy. despite the CO, ops o and everyone else on the bridge "supervising" the people recovery operation.... until the XO stepped out onto the bridge, noticed the lack of bearing change on the buoy and slapped everyone silly...

Unlike the CO and the watch section, I saw that one coming.

Yup. Saw that initial collision report and first words I hear in my head......... "..... removed due to a loss of confidence in his ability to command...." Damn shame to see a almost 30-yr career end like that. A big mistake no doubt....But still.....

One minute you're 6 months into a likely 9-month deployment thinking of home then all of a sudden the sound of tearing metal and BOOM. You're calling the wife or family members to let them know your Naval career is over....

One the other hand.... the skipper of TheIKE, having some downtime after completing a 9-month deploy with only two port calls and circling the Red Sea for 7 months seeing more sustained combat operations than any other carrier in decades and earning a Combat Action Ribbon has to tell his wife that "BTW I am headed to Greece to finish up the Truman deployment and Ill be back in 3 months hopefully....."
