Usps

Thanks!

I was just thinking to myself how scary their flight department might be if it ran anything like the rest of that agency!

Contract. Mostly on Fedex and the passenger airlines
oddly enough they contract the sorting to people like evergreen who will deliver the freight to fedex in some places.

If memory serves, they used to have their own flight dept., operating 727s.

Learned something interesting regarding the USPS from a couple of people who've worked there for a very long time: postage rates have gone up not because of USPS inefficiencies, but because Congress keeps raiding the USPS piggy bank. The increase coming next year is due to increased congressional pilfering, nothing more...in other words, it's a hidden tax increase.

USPS flying was flown by a whole host of carriers over the years. They didn't have a large scale contractor like FedEx until 2001.

USPS freight in airplanes in USPS colors were flown by Ryan International and Express One. Other large mail contractors were Kitty Hawk and Emery Worldwide. Many other smaller carriers flew mail into the dedicated mail hub in IND as well.

Q: How do you know when the USPS is hiring?

A: When thier Flags are at half staff .... I'm joking ...

Damn, the only reason I got into aviation was to fly the airmail route in a Ford Tri-Motor. Guess I'll just have to live off my trust fund now....just edited that, don't type late at night after studying all day.....
